India shipped a total of 56.6 million handsets during the April-June, 2015 quarter, out of which 43% were smartphones. The smartphone market grew 24.8% during the same period.

Xiaomi has launched limited edition Pink, Blue and Yellow variants of the Mi 4i smartphone in India at the MIUI 7 launch event, to celebrate the arrival of MIUI 7. It was launched in India back in April in White color and the Dark Grey variant was launched in June. Swipe Technologies has launched ELITE, the company’s first smartphone in the online-only Elite sub-brand, exclusively on Flipkart, as it promised. It packs a 5-inch HD 2.5D cured glass display with 2mm narrow bezel, is powered by 1.3 GHz quad-core processor and runs on Android 5.0 (Lollipop) with Swipe’s own Freedom OS. Samsung has launched the Galaxy S6 edge+ smartphone in India. It was announced at the Galaxy Unpacked 2015 event last week and packs a 5.7-inch Quad HD (2560×1440 pixels) Super AMOLED display that is curved on both the sides, is powered by a Octa-Core ( Quad 2.1GHz + Quad 1.5GHz) Exynos 7420 processor and runs on Android 5.1 (Lollipop). Meizu has announced that it has partnered with Snapdeal to sell its flagship MX5 smartphone in India. It had partnered with Amazon.in to sell its m1 note and the m2 note smartphones in the country. The MX5 has mBack touch-sensitive home button that offers different functions based on press, similar to the m2 note. It also has a mTouch 2.0 fingerprint sensor on the home button, comes with 4G connectivity with support for LTE bands for India. The T45 4G and has a 4.5-inch FWVGA screen and is powered by a 1GHz quad-core processor, the Eluga L2 has a 5.5-inch qHD screen and is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor, and the Eluga I2 has a 5-inch HD display, is powered by a 1GHz quad-core processor and also comes with a front-facing flash for capturing better selfies. Lava has launched Iris Atom 2 and Flair P1i new budget smartphones in the Iris and the Flair series. The Atom 2 has a 4.5-inch FWVGA screen and is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor. The Flair P1i has a 4-inch WVGA display and is powered by a 1GHz processor. Both these smartphones run on Android 4.4 (KitKat), come with dual SIM support and have 3G connectivity. Asus launched its new smartphones in the Zenfone series, the Zenfone 2 Deluxe, Zenfone 2 Laser 5.5 and the Zenfone Selfie at the ZenFestival in India earlier this month. Asus already announced that these smartphones will be available exclusively on Flipkart and also thorough ASUS Exclusive stores and authorized retailers starting from this month. iberry’s Auxus has launched Auxus PRIME P8000 in partnership with Chinese smartphone maker Elephone exclusively on Snapdeal, as it announced yesterday. It has a 5.5-inch 1080p screen, is powered by a 1.3 GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6753 processor and runs on Android 5.1 (Lollipop). It supports Elephone ROMs and customized ROMs. It has 4G LTE connectivity with support for 4G LTE bands (TDD B40 2300MHz and FDD B3 1800MHz) for India.

Uber started testing cash payment option in Hyderabad in May this year and expanded it to Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Kochi and Pune in India last month. Now it has started accepting cash payments in Chennai for uberGO and uberX rides.
