Xolo Q1000 Opus powered by Broadcom BCM23550 quad-core chip launching this month

Xolo has announced that the company has partnered with Broadcom to launched the Xolo Q1000 Opus powered by Broadcom BCM23550 later this month.  Broadcom signed up for  ARMv7 and ARMv8 Architecture licenses earlier this year and announced the chip back in June, which has four ARM Cortex A7 Cores. The chip has support for Broadcom’s BCM4334 connectivity combo chip with 3G HSPA+ (HSPDA: 21Mbps; HSUPA 5.8 Mbps) connectivity and and BCM4752 multi-constellation GNSS location chip. It also has support for NFC, up to 12MP imaging, Dual SIM support and 1080p HD video capture and playback. HTC announced their flagship HTC One way back in February, but even now, it is the phone to beat in terms of design and build quality in the Android eco-system. The HTC One is easily the best built and good looking Android smartphone till date and HTC have widened the One lineup with a One Mini, which is a smaller version of the flagship and the One Max, which is a bigger version of HTC One. All the three smartphones look pretty much the same except for their size.

Zen Ultrafone Amaze 701 FHD Camera Samples

The latest trend in the Indian mid-range phablet market is the inclusion of a Full HD 1080p display in the smartphones and rightly so, every manufacturer has come up or is coming up with a Full HD smartphone and one among them is Zen. Zen’s Ultrafone Amaze 701 FHD comes with a 5inch Full HD display and is powered by the new MediaTek MT6589T quad-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz, Power VR SGX544 GPU and is somewhat let down by just 1GB of RAM. However, it is equipped with a 13MP camera on the back which has become a mandatory for Indian manufacturers these days.

YotaPhone with Dual 4.3-inch LCD and e-Ink screens launching Internationally in December

YotaPhone from Russia-based Yota Devices is finally launching in December 2013. The company confirmed that the phone would launch next month, and TechCrunch is reporting that it would be available internationally. The company showed off the phone with dual screens at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona earlier this year. It packs hefty specifications including a 4.3-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) LCD capacitive multi touch main screen and a 4.3-inch (360×640 pixels)  E-Ink rear screen. Xolo Play was the first phone from the Indian manufacturer to sport a decent build quality and the Tegra 3 processor. Facebook started rolling out an updated Messenger app for Android with a new design and a faster experience few weeks back for select users, now the iPhone has been updated to a new version that brings a similar design. This version has also been updated for iOS7 with custom in-app sounds. The startup time and overall speed and performance have also be improved. My Talking Tom now available on iOS, Android and Windows Phone

Talking Tom, the insanely popular app that kids loved, has now got its own “My Talking Tom” app that lets your pet and grow Tom the cat, hence validating the name. The previous versions only involved playing around with the cat which talks back to you in a hilarious voice but now it’s more of a pet simulation like Kinectimals where a kitten grows into your own cat, with lots of customization options to make it personal. The app is, unsurprisingly, available for iOS and Android, and for the first time, it is officially available on Windows Phone too, on the same day. Download My Talking  here –

Oppo N1 Benchmarks

Oppo unveiled the N1, the company’s latest flagship smartphone back in September. We brought you the unboxing of the device earlier this week, here we have the benchmarks of the smartphone. The phone is powered by a powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 (APQ8064) processor clocked at 1.7 GHz with Adreno 320 GPU and pack 2GB of RAM. It has a 5.9 inch full HD 1920×1080 IPS LCD display and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) with Color ROM pre-installed. Let’s find out how it performs in various synthetic benchmark tests.

Motorola Moto G India Launch in early Jan 2014

Motorola just officially announced the Moto G at an event in Sao Paulo in Brazil and also holding a satellite event in London where we should be getting our hands on the Moto G shortly. The company has also confirmed that the Moto G is indeed coming to India as soon as January 2014. The device is priced at an aggressive $179 price  for a 8GB unlocked version in the US without any contract of any sort. The 16GB version costs just $20 more at  $199. The India pricing is not yet available but we expect it to be announced closer to launch and hopefully under Rs.12500 which is probably one of the cheapest Android phones from an international handset maker.

Motorola has finally announced the Moto G, the company’s latest budget smartphone as they promised. It has a 4.5-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) edge-to-edge display at 329 ppi with Corning Gorilla Glass protection, powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor and run on Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) with upgrade to Android 4.4 (KitKat) soon. It has a 5-megapixel rear camera with 720p HD video recording and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. It has a water resistant coating both on outside and inside for complete protection. Yet another Smartphone OS in an already crowded market? Is there a breathing gap for platforms with differentiated offerings? So many questions needed answering when the Firefox OS was announced. And now it is here, residing within a handful of devices. Firefox OS might be the litmus test for a new OS’ sustainability in a fiercely competitive market. And for sustainability, any OS needs hardware, and tailored ones are the demand of the day. So Firefox announced their partnerships with several manufacturers for manufacturing low cost devices to push their platform forward to the ideal first smartphone user segment. ZTE is one of them, and one of their first devices featuring the Firefox OS is the ZTE Open.

The name Open signifies Firefox’s mobile vision in a word. The platform is based on web technologies, and much like Firefox, the browser, most apps it has run on HTML5 or Javascript. Previously we had seen phones or apps based on web technologies didn’t perform that well, and that was exactly the case with FFOS too, when we had last seen the ZTE Open at the MWC event.
