Xolo launched the Q1000 Opus, the company’s first quad-core smartphone with a quad-core Broadcom chip in the Q CORE series last month. We reviewed the smartphone recently and found some bugs in the camera that crashes the camera often. Xolo has released a minor firmware update that fixes these issues. After its first Intel partnership for the X Series phones, Xolo partnered with Broadcom to launch the Q1000 Opus last month that features the latest quad-core Broadcom chip. Most of the Xolo phones in the Q CORE series uses a MediaTek chip and the Xolo Q500 uses a Snapdragon 200 processor. Unlike the Q1000, the company’s first phone with a HD screen and a quad-core processor, the Q1000 Opus is a low to mid-range smartphone with a 5-inch FWVGA screen and a 5-megapixel rear camera. Broadcom, a company that powers most of the WiFiac chips inside smartphones these days had been very quiet in the SoC business, but they had recently announced new chips and a partnership with Xolo for their Quad Core low end chip. The fruition of that partnership is the Xolo Q1000 Opus, yet another Q1000 that looks and performs nothing like the other one. This low-mid range device, that launched to retail in December last year, is priced at Rs. 9,990 and has modest specifications to rival the competition in the same segment. We have got this phone for testing in our labs, so as a first order of business, here is our unboxing with a quick look at the hardware and an overview of the minimally modified software –

It comes with a 5-inch (854 ×480 pixels) FWVGA capacitive touch screen display, powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core Broadcom (BCM23550) processor and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). It has a 5-megapixel rear camera with BSI sensor, LED flash and 720p HD video recording and a 0.3-megapixel (VGA) front-facing camera. It comes with dual SIM support with dual standby.

It was announced last month and packs a 5-inch (854 ×480 pixels) FWVGA capacitive touch screen display, powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core Broadcom (BCM23550) processor and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). It has a 5-megapixel rear camera with BSI sensor, LED flash and 720p HD video recording and a 0.3-megapixel (VGA) front-facing camera. It comes with dual SIM support with dual standby, similar to other Xolo smartphones.

Xolo Q1000 Opus powered by Broadcom BCM23550 quad-core chip launching this month

Xolo has announced that the company has partnered with Broadcom to launched the Xolo Q1000 Opus powered by Broadcom BCM23550 later this month.  Broadcom signed up for  ARMv7 and ARMv8 Architecture licenses earlier this year and announced the chip back in June, which has four ARM Cortex A7 Cores. The chip has support for Broadcom’s BCM4334 connectivity combo chip with 3G HSPA+ (HSPDA: 21Mbps; HSUPA 5.8 Mbps) connectivity and and BCM4752 multi-constellation GNSS location chip. It also has support for NFC, up to 12MP imaging, Dual SIM support and 1080p HD video capture and playback.
