Airtel has partnered with Karbonn Mobiles to launch Karbonn A40 Indian, a 4G VoLTE phone with support for 22 Indian languages at an effective price of Rs. 1399. It has also launched a new Rs. 169 plan for the phone that offers unlimited calling and 0.5GB 4G data per day for 28 days. Airtel said that you need to do 36 continuous monthly recharges of Rs. 169. Jio Payments Bank is likely to start its operations in December this year. It is a a joint venture between Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) and SBI. The Jio Payments Bank will join the likes of Payments bank from Airtel, Paytm, India Post, and Fino Payments Bank. Latest State of Mobile Networks report in India from OpenSignal reveals that Airtel still has fastest download speed among the four national 4G operators. It has an average download speed of 9.15Mbps, compared to Reliance Jio which has download speed of just 5.81Mbps, which is actually behind Vodafone and Idea with 7.45Mbps and 7.4Mbps download speeds, respectively. Reliance Jio unveiled JioPhone, the company’s first VoLTE feature phone back in July and started pre-bookings in August. The company started delivering the pre-ordered units for customers from last week. The phone comes with a new Jio SIM card and has Dhan Dhana Dhan Rs. 153 plan that offers unlimited voice and data. Reliance introduced its first VoLTE feature phone, the JioPhone at its 40th annual general body meeting. The company had announced that the JioPhone is effectively free, but to avoid misuse, Reliance was collecting INR 1500 as a security deposit.
The deal offered the JioPhone user to use his phone for 36 months and be eligible to get a full refund of the security deposit by returning the used JioPhone. Reliance has now published a detailed terms and conditions of JioPhone usage, which reveals some of the asterisks of the free claim. Airtel today announced deployment of India’s first Massive Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) technology, which is a pre-5G technology that will make Airtel’s network future ready for meeting the data demand in India. Airtel has launched Voice over LTE (VoLTE) services in India starting from Mumbai, as expected, making it the second operator in the country to offer VoLTE after Reliance Jio. This lets Airtel customers enjoy HD quality voice calls along with faster call set up time compared to normal voice calls on their VoLTE-compatible 4G handsets. Airtel already offers 4G Advanced Carrier Aggregation technology in Mumbai that offers data speeds of up to 135 Mbps by combining spectrum capacities in 2300MHz (TD LTE) and 1800 MHz (FD LTE).
