Reliance Jio unveiled its JioPhone at the 40th AGM in July and the pre-bookings for the phone began August 24th at 5:30PM. Bookings for the phone crossed 3 million in a couple of hours after the bookings opened even though there were issues booking online and through MyJio app. In 24 hours bookings for the phone crossed 6 million through online and offline channels, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Reliance Jio unveiled its JioPhone at the 40th AGM last month, and the company said that pre-booking for the phone will start on August 24th. As promised today the company has announced that the phone will be available for pre-booking through MyJio app and jio.com online as well as Jio retailers and multi-brand device retailers including the Reliance Digital stores network offline at 5:30PM tomorrow.

Reliance Jio unveiled JioPhone, the company’s first VoLTE feature phone last month. It will start pre-bookings for the phone from 5:30PM today. At the launch it revealed some of the specifications such as 2.4-inch QVGA screen,microSD slot, torch light, FM Radio, support for 22 major Indian languages and voice commands to call someone, reject a call, browse internet, open apps and more. It already confirmed NFC support, and said that tap-and-pay payments through UPI, credit and debit cards will be enabled through software update. Reliance Jio launched its MyJio app back in May last year before it started offering Jio Preview Offer for consumers. Earlier this week it crossed 100 million or 10 Crore installs on the Google Play Store. It crossed 50 million installs back in December last year after it hit 10 million in September last year. Aircel today launched a new First Recharge Coupon (FRC) 449 and 229 for its new customers in J&K that offer unlimited (Local & STD) calls with 84 days validity. The 449 pack offers 168GB 3G data at 2GB per day and the 229 pack offers 84GB 3G data at 1GB 3G data per day All Aircel customers with 2G, 3G or 4G handsets can avail the offer, said the company. Reliance Jio is in talks with WhatsApp to create a special version of the popular messaging app for newly launched JioPhone, according to a latest report from Factor Daily. Both the companies are planning to introduce a toned-down version of WhatsApp on the feature phone.

Last year there was a report that said Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular were gearing up to launch VoLTE (Voice Over LTE) services to take on Reliance Jio who launched pan-India 4G LTE services with VoLTE (Voice Over LTE) back in September last year. Airtel has announced consolidated results for the first quarter ended June 30, 2017 in which it posted consolidated revenue of Rs. 21,958 crore, YoY drop of 11.1%, less than the expected drop of 14.0%. India revenues were at Rs. 17,244 crore that has declined by 10.0% YoY primarily led by mobile drop of 14.1% YoY. Net Income was at Rs 367 crore compared to Rs 1,462 crore in the corresponding quarter last year, down 74.9%.”Mobile market remains turbulent in the current quarter as well, due to disruptive pricing by a new operator,” said Airtel.

Reliance Jio unveiled its first 4G VoLTE feature phone – JioPhone yesterday. The company revealed some of the features of the phone, but it did not confirm complete specifications at the event or on its site. Today Qualcomm India confirmed that the phone is powered by its latest 205 Mobile Platform which is a 1.1GHz Dual Core SoC with integrated X5 LTE Global Mode modem for VoLTE and multimode dual SIM. The Lava 4G Connect M1, which was the launched as the first VoLTE feature phone is powered by a Quad-core Spreadtrum SP9820A Processor.

Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries at the company’s 40th annual AGM announced that Reliance Jio has crossed 125 million customers in 10 months of launch, adding 7 customers every second on average. He also said the company has over 100 million paid customers, since March, which is the biggest free to paid user migration, and most have recharged for Rs. 309 or more.
