Aircel to start 4G LTE trial in Chennai by the end of 2013

After the successful Aircel Blog Up event in Delhi on March 15th, Aircel conducted the Aircel Blog Up Chennai edition on 10th May 2013. At the event, K. Sankara Narayanan, Regional Head, Regional Business Head, Aircel Chennai & Tamil Nadu said that they are gearing up to start pilot run for 4G LTE services in Chennai by the end of 2013 or early 2014. Aircel has 20 MHz spectrum on 2300 MHz in 8 circles including Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu (including Chennai), West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, Assam, North-East and Jammu & Kashmir. Nokia Lumia 928 with 8.7 MP PureView camera, OIS and Xenon flash coming to Verizon for $99

Nokia has just announced its new PureView device, the Lumia 928 for Verizon. The highlight of the phone is its pairing of a Xenon flash with the optical image stabilization assembly from the 920. The camera is a 8.7MP unit which will let you shoot images in both 4:3 and 16:9 mode without cropping. The camera module has a f/2.0 aperture.

Vodafone India to take legal action against DoT regarding extension of licenses in 3 circles


Vodafone, in a statement today has announced that they are  taking all required actions, including legal against the Department of Telecom (DoT), regarding extension and continuity of its licenses in Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata, as per the provisions of policy and license and repeated assurances by DoT and Ministry in the past.  The 900MHz and 1800MHz spectrum allocated to Vodafone would expire in 2014. Nokia and Facebook partner to offer free Facebook access on Asha 501

Nokia unveiled the Asha 501 at an event in Delhi earlier today. At the launch Nokia has announced that they have partnered with Facebook to offer free Facebook access on Airtel subscribers in Africa and India. Facebook app comes pre-loaded on the Asha 501, apart from range of apps including Foursquare, LinkedIn, Nimbuzz, Twitter and more. Nokia Lumia 928 with PureView camera confirmed

Nokia Lumia 928, the company’s upcoming smartphone for Verizon has confirmed on the official Nokia US website. The phone has also been advertised on Vanity Fair magazine and recently spotted on a bill board in the US.  Both these ads confirms the PureView camera, optical image stabilization (OIS) and th Carl Zeiss lens in the phone.New press render for the Lumia 928 surfaced last month. Vodafone launches Superfan Junior contest for IPL 2013


Vodafone India launched the Superfan contest for their customers last month, that runs till May 20, 2013. Now the company has launched the Superfan Junior contest that would let  22 young boys and girls aged 6-12 years across India a chance to walk hand-in-hand on field with 22 of the world’s finest cricketing heroes competing at the Grand Finale of IPL 2013, at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on 26th May 2013. Vodafone Superfan Junior will be selected basis the entry by Eligible Subscribers who need to be the parents or guardians of the children. You might have seen Airtel’s Re. 1 Mobile Video commercial on TV during the IPL. The company has officially launched the Re. 1 mobile video downloads. This new VAS service would let you download videos across 8 genres including movies, lifestyle, music, comedy and more from a vast collection of 30,000+ videos. Qatar Foundation buys 5% stake in Bharti Airtel for $1.26 billion


Bharti Airtel, India’s largest telecom operator will sell 5 percent stake to Doha-based Qatar Foundation Endowment for $1.26 billion (~Rs. 6,800 crore) by issuing 199,870,006 new shares at a price of Rs. 340 apiece, according to a recent report from Economic Times. Bharti reported its 13th successive drop in quarterly profits yesterday, with a near 50 percent fall in profits compared with a year earlier. Spice Stellar Slatepad Mi-725 now available for Rs. 8499


Spice Stellar Slatepad Mi-725 that surfaced on the official website is now on sale from online retailer Saholic. It has a 7-inch (1024 x 600 pixels) capacitive touch screen display, powered by a 1 GHz  processor and  runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) OS. It comes with a 3.2-megapixel auto focus rear camera and has a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. It has 3G and voice calling support via SIM card slot. Spice launched the Stellar Pad Mi-1010, a 10.1-inch tablet earlier this year, and this is the company’s first tablet with 3G and voice calling support in the Stellar series. Reliance ties up with Aircel for 2G Intra-circle roaming

Reliance Communications has announced plans to expand its pan-India 2G network through 2G GSM Intra-Circle roaming agreements with existing operators to improve their network coverage. The company has announced that they have signed a pan-India 2G GSM ICR agreement with Aircel. They are in talks with several operators across the country for similar agreements. S Mobility has officially launched the Spice Mi-502 Smart Flo Pace 2, the company’s latest smartphone with a 5-inch (480 x 800 Pixels) capacitive touch screen display at an affordable price tag. The phone went on sale earlier today from the online retailer Saholic. It is powered by a 1 GHz dual-core processor and runs on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). It packs a 5-megapixel rear camera with dual LED flash and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. Micromax launched the A72 Canvas Viva recently for Rs. 6,499, but the Spice Mi-502 is better in terms of specfications. It has 2G (EDGE) and dual SIM support and packs a 2100 mAh battery. Idea Cellular is all set to launched a new Android Smartphone, Idea Whiz with a 4-inch WVGA display and a 1 GHz dual-core processor. The company launched the AURUS 2, successor of the first AURUS phone recently. Even though this has a larger display and a faster processor, the phone runs on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) instead of Android 4.1.  It has a 5MP auto focus camera with LED flash and a VGA front-facing camera for video calling. The Samsung Galaxy S4 just launched in India today, and part of the announcement was the exclusive partnership with Vodafone for bundle offers. Vodafone, one of India’s largest mobile operators has special plans for the Galaxy S4, which we slightly touched upon in the launch post, and now we are going into the details. First of all, it is called a “All-in-one” plan which means voice, text and data is included in this plan. Sistema Shyam TeleServices Limited (SSTL) that nationally operates its telecom services under the MTS brand has announced that Dmitry Shukov would take over from Vsevolod Rozanov, the current President and CEO of SSTL. Vsevolod Rozanov, who is with the SSTL since October 2008 is set to move to senior position in Sistema JSFC Headquarters in Moscow. Vodafone India has launched two new national roaming packs for pre-paid customers. These packs offer incoming calls at 30p/minute while roaming on Vodafone network, across India and outgoing call rates at 1.5p/sec for all local & STD calls, while roaming or at home. These packs would be let people enjoy calls at affordable roaming rates even during their vacations. These are aimed at those who tend to travel a lot regularly.
