POCO launched the M8x 5G, the company’s latest smartphone in the M8 series, in India last week with Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 and a 7900mAh battery. Here we have the first impressions of the phone.

The phone has a 6.9-inch HD+ 120 Hz LCD screen, and the sunlight legibility is good even in bright outdoors. The screen has Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection.
The tiny punch-hole houses an 8MP camera. On the top edge there is an earpiece grill that doubles up as a secondary speaker. There is a slightly large bezel on the bottom.
It is the first phone in India to be powered by the latest Octa Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 4nm SoC. It runs Android 16 with HyperOS 3 out of the box. The company has promised 4 OS updates and 6 years of security updates for the phone, which is good. The phone up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage.
Coming to the button placements, the volume rockers and the power button that embeds the fingerprint scanner are present on the right side of the phone. There is nothing on the left. The hybrid dual SIM slot is present on the bottom along with a USB Type-C port and a loudspeaker grill. The 3.5mm audio jack and the speaker vent are present.
Since the phone has a plastic frame, you don’t see any antenna cutouts. The flat frame offers a good grip to hold and doesn’t attract fingerprints. The phone also has IP64 ratings for dust and splash resistance.
The POCO M8x 5G features the 50MP rear camera with an f/1.8 aperture. You can also see the flicker sensor, LED flash and the secondary microphone. Both the front and rear cameras support 1080p 30 fps video recording. Check out some camera samples.
The Leather Green color variant of the phone that we have features a vegan leather finish that looks and feels premium. It also comes in Blue and Black colors.
The phone packs a 7900mAh battery with support for 45W fast charging and also has 22.5W reverse wired charging. Since the phone has a huge battery, it weighs 232 grams.
The POCO M8x 5G starts at Rs. 20,999 for the 4GB + 128GB model. There are also launch offers that let you get the phone for Rs. 18,999. It will be available from Flipkart starting from August 27th.
