Today it has announced Android Oreo beta program for the phone, but it is for the MIUI 9 China ROM on its global forum, however it is applicable for all regions. Xiaomi launched the Mi A1 Android One phone in India in partnership with Google back in September in Black, Gold and Rose Gold colors and the Rose Gold variant of the phone went on sale in the country last month. The company recently announced a Rs. 1000 permanent price cut for the phone recently. Today it has launched new Special Edition Red color variant in the country, after it was introduced in Philippines last week.

Xiaomi launched the Mi A1 Android One smartphone in India back in September running stock Android 7.1 (Nougat) in partnership with Google. At the launch it promised Android 8.0 (Oreo) update for the phone by 2017 and also said that it will also be one of the first phones to get Android P. Last week it started recruitment for Android Oreo beta testers for the phone through Mi Community India as well as MIUI Global Forum and earlier today it selected some active users eligible for the update.

Xiaomi launched the Mi A1, the company’s first Android One smartphone with dual rear cameras in India back in September for Rs. 14,999. Last week it announced a temporary Rs. 2000 price cut for the phone on Flipkart during its Big Shopping Days sale between December 5th and 7th as well as Mi.com. Now it has announced a permanent Rs. 1000 price cut for the phone, so the phone is now available across retailers for Rs. 13,999. Apple wins EU trademark case preventing Xiaomi from trademarking Mi Pad in Europe

Apple has successfully stopped Xiaomi from trademarking Mi Pad tablet in Europe as an EU trademark as the name was too similar to Apple’s iPad. The European Union’s second-highest court, the General Court has ruled against Xiaomi and said that it should not register as a trademark. Xiaomi just announced the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus smartphone at an event in China as it had promised. The Redmi 5 has a 5.7-inch HD+ 18:9 full-screen display, is powered by Snapdragon 450 and packs a 3300mAh battery, while the Redmi 5 Plus comes with a 5.99-inch FHD+ 18:9 full-screen display, is powered by Snapdragon 625 and packs a 4000mAh battery. Both these run Android 7.1.2 (Nougat) with MIUI 9.

Xiaomi’s next flagship smartphone will be powered by Snapdragon 845

At the second annual Snapdragon Technology Summit, Qualcomm introduced the Snapdragon 835 Mobile Platform as the successor to Snapdragon 835 that most flagship smartphones this year. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun at the event said that Qualcomm has always been part of Xiaomi’s flagship smartphone launches right from the Mi 1 that was introduced back in 2011 and the next flagship Xiaomi smartphone will be powered by Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform. He said that 238 million Xiaomi smartphones are powered by Qualcomm processors.

When everyone is waiting for the Redmi Note 5, Xiaomi just sent out invites for the announcement of Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus smartphones at an event in China on December 7th. The company has also teased the smartphone in several images that confirm its design. New smartphones with model numbers MDT1 and MDE1 have been certified by TENAA today with 18:9 displays, so this will likely be the Redmi 5.
