Xiaomi just launched the Redmi 5 smartphone in India, as expected. It was introduced back in December last year and packs a 5.7-inch HD+ 18:9 full-screen display and is powered by Snapdragon 450 with up to 4GB RAM. It runs Android 7.1.2 (Nougat) with MIUI 9, has a 12-megapixel rear camera with 1.25μm pixel size sensor and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with selfie flash, similar to the Redmi Note 5. Huawei’s Honor brand just introduced the Honor 7C smartphone in China today. This directly competes with the Redmi 5 that was introduced back in December last year and will launch in India this week. Both these share almost similar specifications including a 18:9 display, Snapdragon 450, up to 4GB RAM, fingerprint sensor on the back and a metal back. Last week, we reported that newly launched Redmi Note 5 Pro had Low Volume output via Headphones issue, and Xiaomi quickly addressed the issue and rolled out MIUI 9.2.5.0 and updated security patch to February as well. Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 5 Pro in India on 14th February, and released the OTA for enabling face unlock in last week of February. Earlier this week we came across posts on Mi Community in which users reported the Low sound output from headphones issue for the newly launched Redmi Note 5 Pro. Xiaomi has surpassed Samsung in the largest smartphone market in India in the Q4 2017 to become the number one brand, according to a report from Cybermedia Research. Xiaomi outshined Samsung in Maharashtra which alone amounted to 13.7% of the sales during the last quarter of 2017. According to CMR, Xiaomi sold over 31.2% of the Smartphones during the period compared to Samsung which sold 15.3%. Update: Xiaomi today announced that the Mi MIX 2S announcement on March 27th will take place in Shanghai. This also marks the first time a Xiaomi launch event will be held in a Chinese city other than Beijing, said Xiaomi’s Senior VP Wang Xiang.
Last week Xiaomi confirmed that it will introduce the Mi MIX 2S powered by Snapdragon 845 on March 27th. XDA recently uncovered some of the specifications of the phone. Now they have revealed more features of the phone, including support for Qi wireless charging, making it the first Xiaomi smartphone with the feature.
Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro smartphones in India last month, which went on sale exclusively on Flipkart as well as Mi.com from February 22nd, and the company said that over 3 lakh units sold out within minutes.
