After two rounds of really close battles between 8 smartphones, we have come to the finals of the SmartFone 13 championship for the best smartphone of 2013. Two devices have made it to the finals and they are – Nokia Lumia 1020 and the Sony Xperia Z1. Both the phones are awesome on their own and have beaten two other capable smartphones to reach this stage, which removes even an iota of doubt on how great these two devices are. Both being the companies’ respective flagships are packed with innovations as well as top class features. But which one do you think is the best of the two? Sony QX Cameras to get firmware update in January

At IFA 2013 in Berlin, which was held during September, Sony launched their latest flagship Android smartphone – Sony Xperia Z1 and a couple of WiFi enabled QX series lens. Sony’s QX 10 and QX 100 received a lot of acclaim from the industry and are now all set to receive a firmware update. According to Engadget, the update will be coming to the two lenses sometime in January and the update is expected to improve the camera performance.

Sony starts rolling out Android 4.3 Jellybean to Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra

Sony has been one of those companies which has always given a timeline for its Android updates. While other manufacturers are busy working on Android 4.4 KitKat for their flagship devices, Sony is silently pushing relatively minor Android 4.3 Jellybean update to two of its top of the shelf products – Sony Xperia Z1 and Sony Xperia Z Ultra.

Round 2 – Google Nexus 5 vs Sony Xperia Z1 #SmartFone13

Round 2 of the SmartFone 2013 championship had begun yesterday with a really close competition between the LG G2 vs Nokia Lumia 1020, and today it’s the turn of Google Nexus 5 and the Sony Xperia Z1 to fight it out in our battleground. After winning massively over the iPhone 5s, the Nexus 5 is in contention with the Xperia Z1 which initially trailed so close with the Note 3 and later pulled a massive lead out of the hat. Both these devices are flagships and have their own advantages and disadvantages, so which one do you want to vote for? Time to decide!

Sony WALKMAN app update for Xperia Z series devices bring new features

Sony has announced that they have started rolling out a new WALKMAN update (version 8.0.A.0.4) for the Z series devices that brings new playlist features. Sony updated all the media apps on these devices back in August and introduced “smart playlist” feature in the WALMAN app recently. The new update also brings new TrackID features and new playlist and preview features in Music Unlimited regions. Sony Xperia Z and ZL Android 4.3 firmware leaks ahead of official roll out

Sony is yet to start rolling out the Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) update for their devices, but an XDA user has posted Android 4.3 (v10.4.B.0.569) ROMs for the Xperia Z (C6603) and the Xperia ZL (C6503). The version is tagged as “Commercial&Journalists”, so it is not clear if this would the final version, which is expected to roll out later this month. Round 1 – Samsung Galaxy Note 3 vs Sony Xperia Z1 #SmartFone13

We initiated the first round of polls for the SmartFone championship for the best smartphone of 2013 today. Samsung Galaxy S4 and the LG G2 were the first contenders, but, as we had pondered earlier, Samsung seems to be the only company with two flagship devices in their portfolio, which cater to different audiences at the same time. So we thought it is fair enough that Samsung has another device in our polls. On the other hand, Sony, the company that had been so late to the party on the past few years finally sped up with the launch of the Xperia Z, one of the world’s first 1080p phones, but it has already gotten a replacement in the form of a Sony Xperia Z1, which takes the speed up a notch, having all the latest specifications in a similar package, and with a great new camera. So, how do these two compete? Which one is your pick?

The year 2013 has been great for the smartphone market, especially the Indian smartphone market. The year 2013 saw the rise of numerous Indian manufactures thanks to “open-source” Android operating system. Towards the end of 2012, only Karbonn and Micromax had established their grip in the mid-range smartphone segment with value for money smartphones. The year 2013 helped the Indian manufacturers expand their market share by offering Full HD display smartphones with Quad-core processors for affordable price points.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC QX100 Review

Sony support page confirms Android 4.4 KitKat for Xperia SP, Update for Xperia T, TX, V and ZR under investigation

Earlier this month Sony announced the list of devices that would get the Android 4.4 KitKat update. Now the Sony Mobile support page shows that the Xperia SP would also get the Android 4.4 update. All the devices that would get the Android 4.4 update would get the Android 4.3 update starting from December 2013. Some devices would directly be upgraded to Android 4.3 from Android 4.1 starting from December, and the Android KitKat update for these devices are under investigation. Sony Xperia Z1 vs Samsung Galaxy S4

Sony announced the Sony Xperia Z1 at the IFA 2013 in Berlin as the company’s latest flagship. Sony Xperia Z1 is the successor of Xperia Z and gets improvement in almost all the departments.

Samsung Galaxy S4 was announced during March and was available in the market since April. Galaxy S4 was the successor of Galaxy S3 and it featured an all-round improvement and it was the first smartphone to come with an octa-core processor.
