Sony starts rolling out Android 4.4 update for Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 and Z1 Compact

Sony has started rolling out the Android 4.4 (KitKat) update for the Xperia Z1, Xperia Z Ultra and the Z1 compact. It started rolling out the Android 4.3 update for the Z Ultra and the Z1 back in December last year, and the Z1 Compact was launched running Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean). The Sony Xperia Z2 that was unveiled last month runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat) out of the box. The KitKat update brings performance tweaks, lot of under the hood improvements, new skin and new features. Sony has introduced Xperia Themes, a new feature to skin your Xperia smartphones and tablets as a part of Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) update. New theme changes Homescreen indicators, Volume bars, Navigation bars, Switches and also changes the wallpaper for the home screen and lock screen. The Xperia Themes work on top of Sony’s skin in Xperia devices, and offers over hundreds of graphical elements. Sony and Panasonic announce Archival Discs coming in Summer 2015

Once the era of CDs was over, DVDs took over and the Blu-Rays have failed to catch up ever since because of the rise of portable devices like smartphones and tablets. The need for optical discs has drastically reduced over the past of couple of years and in almost a dying industry Sony and Panasonic have announced a new type of disc called as Archival Discs.

Sony Xperia E1 and Xperia E1 Dual launched in India for Rs. 9490 and Rs. 10490

Sony Mobile has launched the Xperia E1 and Xperia E1 dual in India. These smartphones were announced back in January and packs a 4-inch (480 x 800 pixels) touch screen display, powered by a 1.2 GHz dual-core Snapdragon 200 processor and runs on Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean). These have a 3-megapixel rear camera and offer 100dB loud audio output through rear speakers. These have Walkman key, shake to shuffle and hardware controls for easy music control. Sony Socialife News app now available to all Android smartphones

Sony Socialife or Sony’s news app that comes per-loaded on Xperia smartphones, is not exclusive to Xperia smartphones anymore. The Japanese manufacturer has released the app on Google Play for all Android smartphones running on Android 4.1 or later. The app crossed 10 million downloads recently, which now has over 13 million downloads, says the company. Looks like it is still exclusive to Sony Xperia tablets. Hands on with Sony’s Android 4.4 UI on a Xperia Z2 – Double Tap to Wake, Gestures and more

Sony launched the Xperia Z2 at the Mobile World Congress event here in Barcelona, Spain. The Z2 is an evolutionary upgrade over the Z1 and fixes every complaint people had with the Z1, like it has a better display, a way better build with a stunningly thin and premium design and overall a better package for a flagship. This also includes the new software work that Sony has done, because the Z2 is the first Android 4.4 device from the company and it brings a lot of new improvements to the looks as well as features that previously didn’t exist. While there are a lot of under the hood improvements, we took a look at some of the user facing features of the new skin on the Xperia Z2 –

Sony Xperia M2 Hands On, Photo Gallery

Amongst the high spec devices launched by Sony, the M2 emerged as the device aimed at the mid range segment. The phone that has a design language decidedly similar to the flagship Z2. The front of the phone has a large 4.8 inch display that has a resolution of 540×960 pixels. First impressions with the hardware definitely left a positive impression as we quite liked the solid construction. Sony Xperia Z2 Hands On and Photo Gallery

Sony has announced its new range of Android products as well as its flagship device ie the Xperia Z2 here at Mobile World Congress. The phone is more of an iterative update than a complete reimagining of the Xperia Z1 and so manages to maintain the same design identity. The design continues to be a combination of glass and brushed aluminum and looks absolutely stunning. That said, the tempered glass back is also extremely susceptible to fingerprints.

Sony Mobile just announced the Xperia M2 and M2 Dual at the MWC 2014. These phones have a 4.8-inch (960 x 540 pixels) capacitive touch screen display, powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor and runs on Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean). It has a 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a front-facing camera. It also has NFC support and also comes in LTE variants.

Sony Xperia Z1 Compact Camera Samples

We just reviewed the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact a couple of days back, and saw the official launch of it happen in India yesterday, with it priced at Rs. 36,990/-. The phone carries forward almost all the USPs of its bigger brother, the Xperia Z1 and one of the constants is the Sony EXMOR RS 20.7 MP sensor. We detailed its performance in the review, which was really good considering the competition and factoring in the now known price.
