Exploring QSlide, LG’s answer to Samsung’s Popup Play

The LG Optimus G is currently the company’s quad-core flagship device. With the Android 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich), LG enabled a quirky new multitasking feature called “Q slide”. We are taking a quick look at that feature in a video below.

HTC Deluxe, global variant of Droid DNA leaks

Press render of the HTC Deluxe, global variant of the HTC Droid DNA has surfaced, thanks to @evleaks. HTC Droid DNA was announced for Verizon Wireless in USA and it was first launched in Japan as HTC J Butterfly last month. There are no details about the specs yet but is expected to come with similar specs including a 5-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) 1080p Full HD super LCD 3 display at 440 PPI, 1.5 GHz processor quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 processor, a 8MP auto focus camera at the back with LED flash, BSI sensor, 1080p HD video recorder and a 2.1MP front-facing camera with HD video recording. Google Moving Closer to Submitting Maps App for iOS

Last month, we reported that a Google Maps for iOS app was in alpha testing. Today, The Wall Street Journal reports that a Google Maps app for iOS may be released via the App Store soon as the company is almost done with tweaking the software for Apple’s iOS devices.

“We believe Google Maps are the most comprehensive, accurate and easy-to-use maps in the world,” a Google spokesman said. “Our goal is to make Google Maps available to everyone who wants to use it, regardless of device, browser, or operating system.”

Unlike the Google’s Maps app that was included with iOS 5 and earlier, it is also reported that the new maps app will also offer free turn-by-turn navigation as has been available on Google Maps for Android and which Apple provides in its Maps app.

Samsung begins production of faster, smaller 64GB embedded flash memory for mobile devices

Samsung has announced that they have started producing new 64GB embedded flash memory for Smartphones and Tablets. The new Samsung Embedded Multimedia Card (eMMC) Pro Class 2000 delivers up to 260 MB/s (megabytes per second) sequential reading speeds and up to 50 MB/s sequential writing speeds. It offers random write speed of 2,000 IOPS (input/output per second) and a random read speed of 5,000 IOPS. These are up to 2 times faster than the eMMC Pro Class 1500 and up to 10 times faster than the normal class 10 memory cards. Sony C6603 gets benchmarked

We have been hearing about a monstrous phone being developed by Sony, which sometimes pops up by the name of Odin and sometimes the Yuga, this phone is considered to have a 5″ display with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution (Wow). Well some of the specs of this device has been confirmed by a Nenamark benchmark result, which also confirms the 5″ display with before mentioned resolution. Read on to know more about this device.

Blackberry Messenger 7 introduces free voice calls over WiFI

RIM today announced that they plan to bring voice capabilities to its popular BlackBerry Messenger service. The service will also bring additional features like integration with customer’s BlackBerry ID. Customers can initiate a BBM Voice Call directly or switch over to one from a BBM text chat.

Nokia to Launch Free Maps App for iOS

Today, Nokia announced that it will release a new mapping service called “Here” to Apple’s iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. The HTML5 based maps will offer offline capabilities, voice guided walk navigation, and public transportation directions. Nokia said that Here will be made available for download via the iOS App Store in the coming weeks.

“People want great maps, and with Here we can bring together Nokia’s location offering to deliver people a better way to explore, discover and share their world,” said Nokia President and CEO Stephen Elop. “Additionally, with HERE we can extend our 20 years of location expertise to new devices and operating systems that reach beyond Nokia. As a result, we believe that more people benefit from and contribute to our leading mapping and location service.”

This new mapping service will also be made available on its own hardware that runs Microsoft’s Windows Phone OS. In addition, Here will also be made available on Google’s Android and Mozilla’s Firefox OS.

Shipping Estimates for iPhone 5 Improve

Minutes after the first batch of iPhone 5 pre-orders went live, shipping estimates were pushed back to 3-4 weeks due to popular demand. Today, for the first time, shipping estimates for new orders of the iPhone 5 placed through Apple’s online store have improved to 2-3 weeks.  The new shipping time applies to both the black and slate as well as the white and silver models, in all three capacities.

This new shipping estimate seems to be in effect for most of Apple’s online stores around the world where the iPhone 5 is sold online.

BlackBerry 10 launching worldwide on January 30th 2013

RIM has just announced that the BlackBerry 10 would be launched simultaneously in multiple countries at separate events around the world on 30th January 2013. RIM showed off first BlackBerry Dev Alpha device running BlackBerry OS 10 back in May, and they revealed the Dev Alpha B in September with lot of new features and improvements. BlackBerry 10 got FIPS 140-2 US government security certification last week. Sony Xperia SL Unboxing

Sony Xperia SL went on sale in India back in September, but Sony launched it officially few weeks back. Here we have the unboxing of the Sony Xperia SL. It looks similar to the Sony Xperia S that we reviewed earlier this year, including a 4.3 inch (1280 x 720 pixels) HD Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine, 12MP camera with LED flash and a 1.3MP front-facing camera, but it powered by a faster 1.7 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 MSM8260 processor with Adreno 220 GPU and comes with Android 4.0 out of the box.

Samsung ATIV Odyssey Windows Phone 8 handset leaked

At its Windows Phone 8 launch event last month, Microsoft had revealed a 2nd Samsung WP8 device which would head to Verizon. This handset would accompany the higher end ATIV S. The image of the handset was however kept under wraps. We can now see what the Samsung ATIV Odyssey looks like thanks to EVLeaks.

Samsung ATIV S hands-on

Recently we got a chance to play with the Samsung ATIV S running Windows Phone 8. While HTC and Nokia have already brought their WP8 devices to market, the ATIV S is Samsung’s top end WP8 handset and is yet anywhere. Like competing WP8 devices, the ATIV S too is powered by a 1.5Ghz Snapdragon S4 processor paired with 1GB of RAM.

Apple Airs Two New iPad Mini Television Ads

Today, Apple has started to air two new TV ads for the iPad mini. The company previously released  the “Piano” ad that was shown during the iPad mini media event.

The first ad is called “Books“, which demonstrates the abilities of the iPad mini as an e-reader. In the ad, a full-size iPad and the iPad mini are both side-by-side opening and closing books in iBooks. As MacRumors points out, the ad uses classy pairings of books to show comparisons between the larger and smaller iPads:  The Sun Also Rises and The Valley of the MoonEast of Eden and How the West Was Won; and, Moby Dick and Gone Fishing.

The second ad is called “Photos“, which uses a similar side by side presentation style as the other two iPad mini ads. This ad shows off iPhoto for iOS with the 60’s classic song Two of a Kind by Bobby Darin and Johnny Mercer in the background.

 

Google Nexus 4 Pictures

LG and Google unveiled the Nexus 4,new Smartphone in the Nexus family at the end of October. It has a 4.7-inch (1280 × 768 pixels) display with 320 ppi and corning Gorilla Glass 2 protection, 1.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor with Adreno 320 GPU and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). The Nexus 4 is priced at $299 for the 8GB version and the 16GB version comes at a price tag of $349. It is expected to go on sale from November 13 in the US, UK, Canada, Germany, France, Spain and Australia.
