In what looks like an accidental move, WhatsApp released new animated stickers in the WhatsApp Store in Beta v2.20.194.7. The feature disappeared in a subsequent Beta update v2.20.194.9, suggesting that the feature is still very much in development.

WhatsApp Payments now available for people and small businesses in Brazil

Facebook-owned WhatsApp started testing UPI-based ‘WhatsApp Payments’ service back in 2018 in India and the expansion has been slow.  Finally now, WhatsApp Payments service is now available for users and small businesses in Brazil, and this comes after Mark Zuckerberg announced earlier this year that the service will be rolled out to more countries in the next 6 months. WhatsApp now lets 8 participants in group voice and video calls [Update: Now rolling out widely]

Update-28th April 2020: WhatsApp v2.20.141 web release is now available to download from WhatsApp’s official website and this version now supports up to 8 people in group voice and video calls. Users who are not on WhatsApp beta version are recommended to side load this APK. Similarly, WhatsApp for iOS v2.20.50 has been updated to support up to 8 people in group calls. WhatsApp limits message forwarding to 1 chat at a time to curb misinformation

Back in 2018, WhatsApp started adding a “forwarded” label for any message that is being forwarded from one chat to another and later limited forwarding messages to 5 chats at once globally. Following that, WhatsApp has again started limiting message forwarding to prevent the spread of fake news related to the COVID-19 crisis.

WhatsApp starts testing ‘delete messages’ feature for individual chats

In a recent update, WhatsApp Beta has started testing a feature called ‘Delete messages‘ that was introduced as part of its rumoured cleaning tools for deleting messages in Groups. Now, in WhatsApp Beta v2.20.83/v2.20.84, they are reportedly testing the disappearing messages feature for personal chats too.

Now WhatsApp has announced the roll out of dark mode for all the Android and iOS users. This lets users choose from light or dark theme. The dark theme is more like dark gray unlike pure black available in some apps. Chats appear with dark background, and your messages are shown in green bubbles. WhatsApp partners with Startup India for Ad Credit Challenge, invests $250000 into the Indian Startup Community

Earlier this year, WhatsApp partnered with The Indian School of Public Policy for a privacy education program. Similarly now, WhatsApp has partnered with Startup India to launch Ad Credit Challenge and the company has invested US $2,50,000 (Rs. 1,79,23,230 approx.) into the Indian Startup Community.
