Nokia sells 4.4 million Lumias in Q4, gives positive outlook

Nokia has published preliminary financial results for the period of Q4, 2012 and have declared them to be better than expected.

The Finnish smartphone manufacturer has estimated shipments of its range of Lumia smartphones to have crossed 4.4 million units. It also shipped 9.3 million units of its Asha range of feature phones. Tax raid on Nokia India’s Chennai plant, evasion to the tune of Rs. 3000 crore suspected

The Economic Times  reports that there’s a tax raid going on at Nokia India’s plant at Sriperumbudur near Chennai. The team of tax officials are conducting investigations at the plant as well the Finnish company’s offices in Chennai. Officials suspect tax evasion to the tune of Rs. 3000 crore.

RIM and Nokia enter into patent licensing agreement

To resolve existing patent litigation between RIM and Nokia, the two companies have decided to enter into a licensing agreement. Nokia had previously demanded  a sales injunction on BlackBerry over the Finnish company’s patents around WiFi networks. While the specific terms of the agreement remain confidential, the financial structure will include a one time payment and on-going payments to Nokia.

Google pulls support for Exchange ActiveSync as part of winter cleaning

Google has announced its plans to do a bit of ‘Winter Cleaning‘ and as a part of it, the company will stop supporting Exchange ActiveSync for Gmail, Contacts and Calendar. Access will only be provided via IMAP, CalDAV and CardDAC which means that legacy devices such as Symbian phones  will no longer be able to connect to Google’s services.

Nokia Lumia 620 unveiled, to be available starting January for $250

Nokia just introduced its latest Windows Phone 8 handset at the Le Web Conference in Paris. Marking the lower end of the Windows Phone 8 range the phone will be offered in seven colors and supports exchangeable shells in gloss and matte finishes depending on the color you chose.

Nokia to sell head office building for €170 million, plans to lease it back

Nokia 206 Hands On

Alongside the QWERTY equipped Nokia Asha 205, the Finnish phone manufacturer also announced the Nokia 206 as part of its feature phone offering.

Jolla Mobile shows off Sailfish UI, promises multitasking and effortless interaction

Jolla Mobile, the startup born from the ashes of the MeeGo team at Nokia showed off the UI for their brand new mobile OS today at the Slush conference. While there’s a lot more yet to be revealed, the OS itself is based on the open source Mer core. The interface is heavily inspired by the much praised Harmattan UI on the Nokia N9 and places a lot of emphasis on single handed usage.
