LG has announced that its 2019 premium TV lineup featuring advanced OLED and NanoCell TVs will begin rolling out this week. LG is reportedly working on its first 5G smartphone; the LG V50 ThinQ which is rumored to go official at the MWC in February; earlier than Samsung Electronics first 5G model; the Galaxy S10 X. While the development of 5G is still underway, South Korean giant LG has taken early steps to secure core technologies for 6G mobile communication. The company teamed up with KAIST which is state science school. LG has opened a 6G research lab at the state-run Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology (KAIST) in the central city of Daejeon. LG Electronics has announced that it has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Microsoft to enhance and further grow LG’s autonomous vehicle and infotainment system business. Under this agreement, LG will accelerate the transformation of its existing digital platform for the vehicle industry, by leveraging Microsoft’s Azure cloud and artificial intelligence technologies along with LG’s future self-driving software. WIPO and USPTO published a patent of an LG smartwatch and method for controlling same on December 20, 2018. The patent hints at a smartwatch with a camera in the watch band. It is necessary to move the camera to get a clean photograph which is easy with a smartphone, but it’s a bit difficult on a wrist.
