According to IDC, worldwide smartphone shipments are expected to decline by 3% in 2018 before returning to low single-digit growth in 2019 and through 2022. Despite the on-going US-China trade war, IDC says that it believes that continued developments from emerging markets, combined with potential around 5G and new product form factors, will bring the smartphone market back to positive growth. Global VR headset shipments decline 33.7%, standalone VR headsets grew 417.7% YoY in Q2 2018: IDC

As per the recent report from IDC, the shipments of virtual reality (VR) headsets were down 33.7% year over year in the second quarter of 2018. However, the IDC expects this to be a temporary setback, since the arrival of new products like Oculus Go and HTC Vive Pro, and new brands will have a positive outlook for the quarters ahead. Indian smartphone shipments reach 33.5 million in Q2 2018, Xiaomi retains top position with 29.7% market share: IDC

According to the IDC India’s Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, smartphone companies shipped a total of 33.5 million units to India in the Q2 2018. This resulted in a growth of 20% year-over-year (YoY). This could be because of the slew of online exclusive launches and strong shipments by offline heavy vendors. Worldwide tablet shipments declined 13.5% in Q2 2018, Apple and Samsung continue to lead: IDC

According to IDC, worldwide tablet market declined 13.5% in Q2 2018 as global shipments fell to 33 million. Slate tablets accounted for the majority of the market with 28.4 million units, which is down 14.5% from the previous year. On the other hand, the detachable tablets also declined during the quarter largely due to the high-profile product launches in the Q2 of 2017 and the absence of timely updates to those products in 2Q18. Huawei surpasses Apple to become second biggest smartphone vendor worldwide with 54.2 million shipments in Q2 2018: IDC

According to the research data from the International Data Corporation (IDC), smartphone vendors shipped a total of 342.0 million units in the Q2 2018, resulting in a 1.8% decline when compared to the 348.2 million units shipped in the second quarter of 2017. Worldwide smartwatch shipments to hit 43.5 million in 2018 with 34.8% market share: IDC

The worldwide wearables market forecasts an estimate of 124.9 million units by the end of 2018, which is an 8.2% increase from the same time last year. Though the growth is slightly lower than the 10.3% growth experienced in 2017, the market is expected to return to double-digit growth from 2019 until 2022 as smartwatches and other form factors grow according to International Data Corporation (IDC). Global tablet shipments continue to decline, down 11.7% YoY in Q1 2018 : IDC

Global tablet market continues to decline, and in the first quarter of 2018 (1Q18), it declined 11.7% year over year with total shipments of 31.7 million units, according to the latest report from International Data Corporation (IDC). Detachable tablets like the Microsoft Surface and iPad Pro saw over 2.9% YoY growth by grabbing 15.3% share, but the traditional slate tablets continued to decline with 26.8 million unit shipments, down 13.9% from the prior year. Worldwide smartphone shipments decline 2.9% YoY in Q1 2018, Xiaomi posts 87.8% YoY growth: IDC

Worldwide smartphone shipments have declined 2.9% YoY in Q1 2018. The smartphone vendors shipped a total of 334.3 million units during the first quarter of 2018. This is a sharp decline compared to the 344.4 million units shipped in the first quarter of 2017. Worldwide wearable shipments up 10.3% YoY in 2017, Apple leads with 15.3% market share: IDC

According to IDC, the worldwide wearables market continued to grow in both the Q4 and whole of 2017 with the total shipments reaching a new record. Apple moved past Fitbit and Xiaomi to become the leader in the wearable market worldwide. The total volumes of the quarter reached 37.9 million units, which is up 7.7% from the 35.2 million units shipped YoY. Worldwide smartphone shipments decline 0.5% first-time in 2017, expected to return to growth in 2018: IDC

According to the International Data Corporation’s Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, smartphone shipments worldwide have declined 0.5% in 2017 making it the first year-over-year decline in the market since the evolution of smartphones. A total of 1.46 billion devices were shipped in 2017 including both Android and iOS. According to IDC’s preliminary data, the Worldwide 2-in-1 detachable tablet market grows 10.3% with 6.5 million units in the fourth quarter of 2017. The regular tablets were shipped around 43.1 million units during the fourth quarter with 141.7 million the entire year which is a decline of 7.6% from the previous year.
