Microsoft to merge Windows Phone and Windows 8 app stores

At a company meeting today, Microsoft evidently let out news that the Windows Phone Store and Windows Store will be merged into a single app store. Terry Myserson who heads the operating systems group confirmed the news at an internal meeting. First reported by The Verge  and confirmed by our own sources, Myserson confirmed that the changes will appear over the next few releases of Windows and Windows Phone. The next major update for Windows is expected later this year called Windows 8.1.  A similar update for Windows Phone called Windows Phone 8.1 will follow it.

TomTom Navigation with fully offline maps arrives for Android in India

TomTom is a well known navigation solutions provider and can be spotted in most automobiles fitted with a navigation system, be it cars or even public transport. It is also widely known that mobile phones have made specialized navigation devices a bit redundant by offering excellent capabilities for everyone that owns a smartphone. TomTom has previously released its navigation apps on all mobile platforms, but they have seen a staged roll out in terms of countries, and now it is finally available for India’s Android devices.

Twitter updates Android & iOS apps, adds login verification and photo galleries

Twitter just pushed out an update for its iOS and Android applications which primarily adds new security related features. It is now possible to use login verification and approve such requests directly from the phone. Two factor authentication had been added to Twitter web a few months back but the updated version of the app will remove the need for SMS based verification. A push notification will show up on the application that will allow users to approve login attempts. Additionally, it is possible to get a backup code in case you don’t have an active data connection on the phone.

Additional features includes a new photo gallery that shows results in a mosaic like grid and lets you see more images in a go. The gallery will also show up under user profiles. An improved search experience is also part of the update which will provide more context and information on people who show up in Twitter searches. Ford SYNC AppLink launched in Asia Pacific

At Computex 2013 here in Taipei , Taiwan ,  Ford announced that it is bringing Ford SYNC AppLink to the Asia Pacific region.Ford SYNC is a voice controlled in-car entertainment system installed in most Ford cars.AppLink is a new feature which lets users interact with mobile applications using the same voice based Sync platform.   Pandora, TuneIn Radio and Kaliki are the first 3 apps which will support AppLink functionality and be available in the Asia Pacific region. Google launches official “Zeitgeist 2012” app on the Play Store

Every year in December, Google has come with a list of top searches of that respective year. This list is called as Zeitgeist, it includes from all the events to the most amazing songs, news and technological improvisations. BigFlix launches Windows Phone application

Reliance Entertainment’s BigFlix VoD service has launched its Windows Phone app. The app features trailers, short films and full length movies allowing subscribers to watch movies and other content from BigFlix’s 1000+ movie catalog on the go.

Drive Link app for Samsung Galaxy SIII now available

Samsung has rolled out its Drive Link app which gives Galaxy SIII users a launcher view which has been optimized for in-car usage. The app allows access to music, GPS navigation in addition to hands-free calls.

Apple AppStore hits 15 Billion Downloads as store crosses 425000 apps

Apple today announced that its AppStore has crossed 15 billion downloads. Apple has over 200 million users on the  iPhone , iPad and iPod Touch.The AppStore has crossed 425000 apps and there are over 100000 native iPad apps according to company’s claims. iOS developers have been paid 2.5 billion dollars so far by the company.We have to add that the quality of apps offered on the Apple App Store is very good  compared to other platforms. If we look back a little into history , the first iPhone which debuted in 2007 never even had the AppsStore. The iPhone 3G was the first to have this functionality and was launched in 2008. 3 years down the the line,  the AppStore crosses 15 billion downloads , another feather on the cap and lots of money in the bank for Apple.
