Windows Phone 7.8 has been relatively an unknown quantity even after the release of Windows Phone 8 because Microsoft has been absolutely mum on any plans of the roll out, but fear not, the schedule for the roll out to Nokia’s Lumia Windows Phones are apparently on target and has started to pop up on the Zune client in the form of a new update!

A Reuters report indicated earlier today that Nokia was cutting the prices of older Lumia phones and also indicated that company would cut the price of it’s 1st Windows Phone by around 15%. Now a UK retailer is selling the Black Lumia 800 for as low as 195 pounds ( 234 GBP including VAT) or Rs.17500 approximately which is the lowest price for the handset since it’s launch last year. The handset is retailing for around Rs.23000 currently in India and it is not clear if the price cut will be applicable here.

Warning: this post is subjective, the most subjective you will ever find. I am writing it for the many readers who understand that and who still want to hear my opinion regardless of whether or not they agree. If you want to bash, build conspiracy theories, point your finger and say that I’m a Nokia hater or a Nokia lover, I’ll save you the trouble and tell you beforehand that you won’t change my mind and that I am both: I love them so much I ended up hating them two years ago. Otherwise, read on.

It seems apt that Nokia has chosen to announced a new colour Lumia 800 this week. Europe has been blankated by snow – so what better way than to celebrate than making official the white version. White is a popular colour for a phone, and while the previous versions has always looked so darn beautiful on the Lumia 800’s Polycarbonate unibody shell, it just isn’t quite as sexy as it is in white. Nokia has made official a new colour variation of their first Windows Phone 7 device, the Lumia 800. Joining the previously announced black, cyan and magenta Lumia 800 is the white version, due out later this month. Continue reading “Nokia Lumia 800, now in white”
Windows phone is not very popular, but we all know that Nokia has taken up Windows Phone as it’s primary O.S and marketed the Lumia 800, their first Windows Phone without any boundaries. From deadmau5 concerts in London to free Xbox, Lumia taxis in India. We can see that Nokia is serious about these devices and are trying to make Windows Phone popular, well the Nokia Lumia 900 is on it’s way to U.S and will be the first flagship device to enter the American shores after many years of absence in the American market.

When Nokia announced it’s first Windows Phone at Nokia World couple of months back at London , I seriously did not expect the Nokia Lumia 800 to go on sale in India till 2012. But Nokia India just sold the first set of Lumia 800s to customers who had pre-booked the device at Ambience Mall in Gurgaon near New Delhi last night at 10 p.m. Customers had to pay Rs.29999 for the device.Nokia had roped in Tennis star Sania Mirza to hand over the devices to the customers. One FoneArena reader was amongst the first few who purchased the device and shared the photos from the event and unboxed it for us. Find the pics below. As part of the The Dark Knight Rise Prologue promotional tie-in between Warner Bros and Nokia, Nokia has produced 40 limited edition The Dark Knight Rises Nokia Lumia 800 smartphones. Being one of the lucky few in the world to own one, I believe it is only fair I share some of my thoughts here. Continue reading “Nokia Lumia 800 The Dark Knight Rises edition hands-on”
I have been using Windows Phone for roughly 6 months now and yes, I really like it. WP, although not perfect, has some features that really got me. There is room for improvement, and I’m perfectly happy in going that route, watching it grow and evolute. After the rather mediocre HTC Trophy I’m now using the Nokia Lumia 800, which simply is the best Windows Phone out there, period.
One of the discussion points I have always faced, has been “but there are no apps on Windows Phone”. Well, i call it nonsense here. The Windows Phone Marketplace is constantly growing, and is getting filled with not only apps from the known brands, but also quality 3rd party applications, with some really cool ideas. Since people are still learning and are getting into Windows Phone since Nokia has joined the party, I thought it’d be a nice idea to put all my currently installed apps together, and wrap them up into a nice post. Ready? Here we go:

Remember when my good friend Stefanos Kofopoulos tortured the screen of the Nokia N8 in his famous video about a year ago? Well, Stefanos is at it again and sent over this video, where he puts the Gorilla Glass of Nokia’s first Windows Phone, the Lumia 800 through it’s paces. This video, posted over at his pestaola.gr blog is not for the faint hearted though, Stefanos does not hold back, scratching all over the display with keys, coins and even a Swiss Army knife! I don’t know about you, but those scratching sounds just made me cringe. Horrible stuff. What happens to the display you ask? Check out the video after the break and make sure to watch in full HD for full proof and enjoy!

Nokia Stores across India have started to take Pre-orders for the first Windows Phone device from Nokia , the Lumia 800. Most Nokia Priority Stores across the country have the device on display as well. In case you wanted to check out the 1st Windows phone from Nokia , you can walk in and get your hands on the device. In order to reserve your unit , you must pay a small advance in the range of Rs.1000-2000 and the device will be made available in the next 10 days according the the store. The final retail price of the Lumia 800 is not yet fixed due to the fluctuating dollar we assume, but the person in a store hinted at a final retail price of Rs.30000-33000. It was this time of the year again, where the heart of every Nokia Fan beats a little bit faster. Nokia Enthusiasts, bloggers, journalists and many more took the trip to London, to join Nokia and see what they have been up to. Same as last year, Nokia World has again been held at the Excel Center in London. I was lucky enough to get an invitation from the awesome people at Nokia Connects and Stephanie from Nokia Austria, and that itself made sure for a fun ride! This years showcase of everything Nokia promised to be a big one, with Windows Phone finally arriving in the form of something we can get our hands on, and since I’m a firm believer in the partnership between Microsoft and Nokia, I can’t say I wasn’t excited to finally get over there and see what the Finns are up to. Keep in mind, this will not be an in-depth analysis of what happened at the keynote, nor will i deep dive into the handsets (that will come later on), what you’re about to read were my personal experiences, and how it felt to be part of the event. Ready? Read on..

Last week I finally got a trial Nokia Lumia 800, thanks to the great people at Nokia Connects (former WOM World). Since we already have a full review by our Jon Choo up, I’ve decided to bring you bits and pieces about it, instead of a second full blown review. So in the upcoming weeks you’ll find a lot more content and thoughts about the Lumia 800 here on Fone Arena! As a little preview to my upcoming “What’s on my Windows Phone”-post, I’ve decided to do a little video walkthrough of one of my favourite apps on WP, and that’s Metrotube, by Lazyworm Apps.

The first Nokia Windows Phone went on sale in the UK few days back in the UK and few other countries . (Read our Nokia Lumia 800 Review). But looked like it was available in limited stores and more easily on a contract. Now online retailer has announced that SIM-Free / Unlocked units of the Lumia 800 will arrive on December 1st in the UK compared to the January 2012 timeframe announced previously.
