Samsung has just announced the third iteration of their successful premium phablet series – Galaxy Note 3. The Galaxy Note 3 was announced at the IFA 2013 in Berlin, Germany. The Galaxy Note 3 comes with a 5.7inch Full HD Super AMOLED display. Just like their flagship smartphone, the Galaxy Note 3 will come in two variants – the international variant sporting the Exynos Octa chipset and the USA variant sporting the Snapdragon 800 SoC. Both the variants will come with 3GB RAM and will have 16/32/64GB variants and a microSD card slot.
Sony just unveiled its new range of Camera lenses that use your Smartphone as a viewfinder. Pretty cool concept, but what if one wants to adopt similar functionality for Sony’s other cameras and make specialized apps for the same? Well, Sony’s got you covered as they have just announced their all new Camera Remote APIs that will let you write Viewfinder apps for their cameras, not just their Camera lenses. And since the APIs are platform agnostic, you can literally write camera viewfinder apps for literally any platform.

Sony has been busy at the IFA launching a wide variety of products ranging from 4K Bravia TVs to Xperia Z1 that sports a 20.7MP camera. Along with major launches, it launched various accessories too. The Sony MDR-10 series of headphones falls under the premium category that brings lifelike detail. Sony’s main aim with this premium series of headphones is to deliver music to the listeners the way the creators created it.

Remember the crazy WCG-10 wireless server from Sony? They have released a successor to it, but it now looks a lot slimmer, just like the Xperia devices, and it can now charge them too! Funnily enough, at first glance, one would think it is actually the back of a Xperia device. A quick recap of what it does is, it’s a portable solution that can connect wirelessly to your smartphone and back-up files, or even let you access the files already in the server and play it back. Asus has announced the Fonepad 7, successor of the Fonepad at the IFA 2013 in Berlin. It comes with a 7-inch (1280 x 800 pixels) IPS display with new smudge-resistant coating to prevent fingerprints, runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) and is powered by a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom Z2560 processor with Hyper-Threading technology. It has a 5-megapixel rear camera with 1080p full HD video recording and a 1.2 MP front-facing camera. It has metallic finish and comes with 3G HSPA+ 3G with up to 42Mbit/s download speeds with voice calling features. Hot on the heels of the new camera-centric Sony Xperia Z1, the company just announced their new range of camera lenses at the Pre-IFA press conference. The Sony DSC QX10 and DSC QX100 are one of a kind camera lenses that act as your Smartphone’s own camera, with the former acting as the camera’s viewfinder. It is a pretty intriguing concept only slightly hindered by the pricing, coming in at $250 for the QX10 and $500 for the QX100. The QX100 is a high end camera lens with specifications of the RX100MII Point and Shoot camera, while the QX10 is a cheaper long zoom camera lens, both with a wireless viewfinder as the display. It has a 5-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) Triluminos Display with with X-Reality engine that would offer rich, natural colours, powered by 2.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). It has a 20.7-megapixel rear camera with Sony G lens with a 27mm wide angle f/2.0 aperture custom 1/2.3″ Sony Exmor RS image sensor, BIONZ image processing engine, , 1080p video recording and a 2-megapixel 1080p front-facing camera. HTC Butterfly S appeared on the official HTC India website back in July. Now the phone is available in India from online retailer Saholic. HTC announced the Butterfly S back in June. Back in July, at Google I/O, Sundar Pichai announced that the total number of Android activations had surpasses 900 million. Ever since that announcement, the whole of Tech industry has been expecting when the Android activations will hit the magical billion. Yesterday, Sundar Pichai, via his post in Google+ announced that Android has surpassed 1 billion activations so far.
Last year, in September, Google announced that the total number of Android activations had surpassed 500 million with 1.3 million activations per day. This year, the number has doubled and the number of activations per day has rose from 1.3 million to 1.5 million.
Essentially, there are a billion Android devices out there in the world and the rate is increasing rapidly at 1.5 million activations per day. Last month’s Android distribution break down revealed that more than 40% of Android devices are on Jelly Bean, 2.6% increase from 37.9% in July. Google is yet to release the distribution chart for last month.
Alcatel, the French company well known for its Enterprise level communications equipment is also responsible for some of the consumer facing devices in the One Touch range of Android Smartphones. After launching the One Touch Idol X, the flagship of the portfolio, the company has also released three other phones in all sizes and prices. The three new phones that have launched in the One Touch series are the Idol Alpha, the Idol S and the Idol Mini. This is along with the new Phablet and the Tablet from the same series.
Alcatel is a name usually less related with the smartphone industry and the French company are now trying to change that fact. Alcatel has just announced their One Touch Hero phablet which competes with most other 6 inch+ devices.
Alcatel One Touch has announced the One Touch Idol X, the company’s latest flagship smartphone. It has a 5-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) 2.4mm edge-to-edge capacitive touch screen IPS display with 170 degrees wide viewing angles. The display is based on one-glass solution (OGS) that reduces the phone’s thickness and has Dragontrail Glass for protection. It is powered by a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). It has a 13.1-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, 5cm macro lens, 1080p video recording and a 2-megapixel 1080p front-facing camera.
