A few weeks back, Sony announced its 2013 flagship device i.e. the Xperia Z. Quite possibly the best designed Sony handset ever, it combines impeccable craftsmanship with performance worthy of a class leading device. Sony has also attempted to build on its heritage of mobile, gaming and imaging by building components of each of those pillars into its device. It is a new design language which makes erstwhile gorgeous Sony handsets appear rather pedestrian. However in the weeks that have followed, both HTC and Samsung have revealed their plans for the year ahead which has allowed us to add a bit of perspective to our review. Fujitsu’s technology lets the smartphone camera calculate your pulse rate

Fujitsu, the Japanese company known for its various offerings in the field of consumer electronics and IT services has developed a novel technology to calculate a person’s pulse rate using just the built in camera of a PC, a tablet or just your Smartphone. This is accomplished by Fujitsu’s own software which uses facial imaging algorithms to define the pulse rate of an individual.

ST-Ericsson: Loss making mobile chip venture to be split, 1600 jobs to go

The loss making join venture between STMicroelectronics and Ericsson will be split and parts of the business will be absorbed between the two companies while the rest will be closed according to a report by Reuters. The move will result in the loss of 1600 jobs. Sony Xperia E dual now available in India for Rs. 10990


Sony Xperia E and the Xperia E dual (C1604) went on pre-order online last week, now online retailer Saholic has started selling the Xperia E dual in India. Both the Xperia E and the Xperia E dual were announced back in December 2012. It comes with a 3.5-inch (480 x 320 pixels) TFT capacitive touch screen display, Dual SIM support and runs on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), which is Upgradable to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Huawei MediaPad 7 Vogue received DLNA certification earlier this month, now evleaks has outed an official press image of the device. The MediaPad 7 Vogue was already mentioned back in an official MWC press release last month. It would come with a 7-inch (1024 x 600 pixels) IPS mult-touch screen display, similar to the Huawei MediaPad 7 Lite that was launched in India last November. Even thought the display size and the resolution are similar, the MediaPad 7 Vouge would come with Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) and it would be powered by a 1.2 GHz / 1.5 GHz quad-core Cortex A9 processor based on the the model. Nokia registers 23% drop in revenues in India

As part of its rather tumultuous transition period, Nokia has reported a decline in annual revenue from its India business for the second consecutive year. A drop of 23% has been reported resulting in annual revenues of €2,227 million. Nokia accounts this to increasing competition and currency fluctuation

Sony Xperia L with 4.3-inch display, 1 GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, Android 4.1 announced

Sony Mobile has also announced a mid-range device, the Xperia L along with the Xperia SP. It has a 4.3-inch (854 x 480 pixels) Scratch-resistant capacitive touch screen display, powered by a 1 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8230 processor and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). It comes with a 8MP rear camera with LED Flash, Exmor RS sensor and also has a dedicated camera key. It is capable of recording 720p HD videos. It also comes with a VGA front-facing camera. It has a LED notification light below the display. Looks like this would replace the Xperia J that was launched last year.

Sony Mobile has announced the Xperia SP, a new smartphone in the Xperia line-up. It comes with a 4.6-inch (1280×720 pixels) HD Reality Display with with Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2, powered by a 1.7 GHz Dual-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8960Pro processor and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). It has a colour-changing transparent element with customizable illuminations at the bottom. It also comes with 4G LTE support in select markets. It has a 8MP auto focus camera with LED Flash, Exmor RS sensor and a VGA front-facing camera. Dropbox acquires the creators of the iOS email app Mailbox

Mailbox, the app obsessed with zero inbox messages just helped cloud storage provider Dropbox acquire its creators. Boasting an atrocious waiting queue for new joinees, the Mailbox app drummed up a lot of interest from consumers and the press alike with it claiming to make email much better in terms of productivity. Today, Dropbox announced in their blog that they have acquired the mailbox team, and they also mentioned that they will be making the app better, by keeping the app intact for the imminent future.

Micromax A51 Bolt with 3.5-inch display coming soon

Micromax launched the A35 Bolt, the company’s first Android smartphone in the Bolt series, last month. Micromax is now getting ready to release the second phone in the series, the A51 Bolt with a 3.5-inch (320 x 480 pixels) display. It runs on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) OS and packs a 2 MP rear camera and a 0.3 MP front-facing camera similar to the A35. It is powered by a 832 MHz Broadcom processor and has 3G support. Lava launches Iris 349, Iris 351 and Iris 355 entry-level dual SIM Smartphones

Lava International has launched 3 new entry-level Android smartphones, Iris 349, Iris 351 and the Iris 355 in the  Iris range. All these phones come with a 3.5-inch (320 x 480 pixels) capacitive multi-touch display, dual SIM support and run on Android 2.3.6 (Gingerbread). These are powered by a 1 GHz single-core processor and have a 2 MP fixed focus camera. Both the Iris 349 and the Iris 351 have 2G EDGE support, and the Iris 355 also comes with 3G support. Karbonn launched the Karbonn A6 and A3 are now available from online retailers Snapdeal and Flipkart in India. The Karbonn A4, which lies between both these phones is listed on Flipkart, but no details about the pricing or the availability yet. All these phones come with dual SIM support, but lack 3G support. The Karbonn A6  comes with a 4-inch (480 x 800 pixels) capactitive touch screen display and runs on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). The Karbonn A4 has a 4-inch (320 x 480 Pixels) display and the Karbonn A3 comes with a 3.5-inch (320 x 480 Pixels). Both the A4 and the A3 run on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread).
