Windows Phone 8.1 rumoured to arrive in April

Windows Phone 8.1 codenamed “Blue” has been rumoured for a long time now, ever since Microsoft confirmed the existence of Windows 8.1(also codenamed “Blue”). While Windows 8.1 has seen its release right on time, with a developer preview in June last year and commercial release by October, we are yet to see even a glimpse of Windows Phone 8.1, which we were hoping to be delivered as fast as the first Windows 8 update. Now, fresh rumours from reliable Mary Jo Foley, ZDNet, reveal that Windows Phone is all set for a April reveal, with developers getting the preview first and general availability later. This comes after rumours of a Cortana reveal, which is a virtual assistant and very much a part of Windows Phone that coincides with Microsoft’s developer event at the same time – Build 2014.

Lava Iris Pro 30 Benchmarks

Lava launched the Iris Pro 30, the company’s first smartphone in the Iris Pro earlier this month for Rs. 15,999. We already brought you the hands-on and the photo gallery of the Iris Pro 30 from the launch event and brought you the unboxing earlier today, here we have the benchmarks of the smartphone. It has a 4.7-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) HD capacitive touch screen display, powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core MediaTek 6589 processor with PowerVR SGX 544MP GPU and runs on Android 4.2.1 (Jelly Bean). Samsung to issue OTA update for Galaxy Note 3 to bring back support for accessories

Samsung started rolling out the Android 4.4 KitKat update for its latest and greatest flagship – Samsung Galaxy Note 3 a week back. Ever since the update, some users have complaints that some unofficial accessories have stopped working. Samsung was blamed that they had terminated the support for third party accessories with the latest update. But that is not the case. Samsung has acknowledged this problem and have mentioned that they will be issuing an OTA update to bring back the support.

Smartphones surpass 1 billion shipments in a year for the first time – IDC

Ever since the introduction of the Smartphones in the mobile industry, we have been witnessing nothing but growth. The category was all set to replace the common mobile phone and the mid point of this transition was noticed sometime last year, with us seeing Smartphones outshipping the feature phones for the first time. The trend continued throughout the year and apparently history was made last year, with smartphones surpassing a billion shipments for the first time. Apple reports $57.6 billion revenue, sells 51 million iPhones, 26 million iPads in Q1 2014

Apple has just released its earnings report for Q1 2014 and has reported revenue worth $57.6 billion. Of this, net profit was $13.1 bilion which corresponds to a 5.7 percent growth in revenue year on year. The company has reported iPhone sales to the tune of 51 million devices sold. This mix was biased towards the iPhone 5s as was revealed in the earnings call. The underlying intent was clear that the iPhone 5c wasn’t as big a success as Apple might have wished for.
