Jolla Smartphone, Sailfish OS ready for commercial release, ROM and launcher coming to Android devices soon

Jolla’s first Sailfish based smartphone went on sale back in November 2013 in Helsinki through local operator DNA and it went on sale online in select parts of Europe. We unboxed it couple of months back. The company has just announced that its Sailfish OS and the smartphone is ready for commercial release outside Europe. MediaTek MT6732 LTE enabled Quad Core chipset to launch at MWC
MediaTek, the maker of chipsets that usually find their home in low – mid range devices, is making a push for LTE connectivity. We reported on the MediaTek MT6595 chip earlier this month that aims to combine a Cortex A17 based quad core chip with a 4G LTE modem. Now the company is all set to launch offerings in the entry level to midrange segments. The MT6732 chip will do just that. Opera Software has announced Sponsored Web Pass, new mobile internet packages to consumers that lets operators team up with advertisers to sponsor mobile internet access for a limited time, free of cost. Opera Web Pass that was announced back in 2012 lets operators offer time or site specific, mobile internet offerings to their users. Opera’s Sponsored Web Pass now allows operators to increase their revenues from data services by enabling their participation in ad revenue monetization, says Opera. Sony Xperia Z1 Compact Camera Samples
We just reviewed the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact a couple of days back, and saw the official launch of it happen in India yesterday, with it priced at Rs. 36,990/-. The phone carries forward almost all the USPs of its bigger brother, the Xperia Z1 and one of the constants is the Sony EXMOR RS 20.7 MP sensor. Google announces Project Tango, to help phones understand surroundings
When Google bought Motorola, they got most of their teams and when they let go, they made sure they kept the ATAP(Advanced Technology And Projects) group. Now, Google has announced their latest Project Tango which is a smartphone that can measure dimensions of the surroundings. Project Tango is an ambitious project from Google and is now currently a 5inch Android running smartphone that comes with specialized software and hardware to map the world around it.

Karbonn Titanium S5 Plus Benchmarks
The Karbonn Titanium S5 Plus is one of the latest budget devices to enter the Indian market. The phone is powered by a 1.3Ghz quad core processor and is paired with 1GB of RAM. The display is a 5 inch panel with a resolution of 960×540. Being paired with a relatively low resolution display removes one of the bottlenecks for the lowly processor and helps it achieve decent performance. We put the phone through our benchmark suite. LG G Pro 2 goes on sale in Korea

LG unveiled the G Pro 2, successor of the G Pro last week. The smartphone is now on sale in Korea earlier than expected. The G Pro 2 has a 5.9-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD IPS display with slim bezel, powered by a 2.26 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor and runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat). Huawei Ascend G6, MediaPad X1 and Glory X1 Smartwatch leaked ahead of MWC 2014

Broadcom introduces BCM4771, the first GNSS SoC for wearable devices

Broadcom, today announced the industry’s first Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) system-on-chip (SoC), BCM4771 for low-power wearable devices such as smart watches and fitness trackers. We had already seen Intel Edison, a 22nm ultra-small computer based on Quark technology. The Broadcom SoC is based on 40nm process technology and has sensor hub that integrates sensor inputs, location capabilities, wireless connectivity and more. Fleksy iOS keyboard alternative now out of beta
Back in December 2013, Fleksy Keyboard, one of the popular third party keyboards in the Android market announced an SDK for iOS apps which allows the apps to use Fleksy Keyboard inside the application. Apple imposes strict rules on third party content inside its core features and that is on of the reasons Fleksy has to be used by the developer in his application(and not by the user like in Android).

When Canonical announced the Ubuntu smartphone OS, they had announced phones would be shipping in late 2014 and after a long time, we are hearing from Canonical about hardware partners. The first hardware partners for Ubuntu smartphones will be China’s Meizu and Spain’s Bq manufacturers.
