Sony India has launched the Alpha 7R VI, the latest addition to its Alpha 7R series of full-frame mirrorless cameras. The new model features an approximately 66.8MP effective back-illuminated fully stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor and Sony’s BIONZ XR2 image processing engine. The company has also introduced the XLR-A4 XLR adaptor alongside the camera.
Alpha 7R VI
The Alpha 7R VI features an approximately 66.8MP effective full-frame back-illuminated fully stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor with up to 16 stops of dynamic range and reduced noise in the mid-sensitivity range. Paired with the BIONZ XR2 processor and integrated AI processing unit, the camera supports approximately 5.6x faster sensor readout than its predecessor.
The faster sensor readout enables blackout-free continuous shooting at up to approximately 30fps with up to 60 AF/AE calculations per second. The Real-time Recognition AF+ (Plus) system uses skeletal-based human pose estimation and tracking for subject recognition and autofocus.
Key imaging features include:
- 5-axis optical image stabilization with up to 8.5 stops of compensation at the centre and 7.0 stops at the periphery
- Auto White Balance using visible light and infrared (IR) sensors with deep-learning-based illumination estimation
- Support for Sony’s Camera Authenticity Solution based on the C2PA standard
The camera uses the NP-SA100 2670mAh battery, rated for up to 710 still images using the LCD monitor or 600 still images using the electronic viewfinder under CIPA standards.

Other features include:
- Approximately 9.44-million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder with DCI-P3 equivalent colour gamut support and 10-bit HDR
- Approximately three times higher maximum brightness than conventional models
- Dual USB Type-C ports for simultaneous charging and data transfer
- Illuminated rear buttons
- Magnesium alloy body construction
- 4-axis multi-angle LCD monitor
- Memory Recall functionality linked to customizable buttons
Video features include:
- 8K 30p recording with 8.2K oversampling
- Full-frame 4K 60p and 4K 120p recording without crop
- Dual Gain Shooting technology, a first for the Alpha series, designed to reduce noise while preserving shadow detail for smooth gradation and wide latitude
- Redesigned in-body stabilization with approximately 2x expanded roll-direction compensation
- Dynamic Active Mode stabilization
- Up to 120 minutes of uninterrupted 8K recording through heat management
- Internal 32-bit float audio recording when paired with the XLR-A4 adaptor

XLR-A4 XLR Adaptor
The XLR-A4 XLR adaptor supports:
- Up to four channels of in-camera digital audio recording through Sony’s Multi Interface Shoe
- XLR microphones such as the ECM-778 (up to two channels)
- 3.5mm stereo mini-jack microphones (two-channel stereo)
- Up to 96kHz 32-bit float four-channel recording on compatible cameras
The adaptor uses dual AD converters for wide dynamic range audio capture. The 32-bit float recording format eliminates manual gain adjustment and reduces the risk of audio distortion.

Compared with the XLR-K3M, the XLR-A4 features a lower-profile design, reinforced chassis structure, and a supplied shoe audio extension cable supporting placement up to approximately 60cm from the camera. Side cable routing minimizes interference with rigs and accessories.
The adaptor also supports USB Audio Class 2.0 and can function as a 96kHz/24-bit two-channel audio interface when connected to a PC.
