Worldwide Wearable shipments reach 32 million units, up 21.7% YoY in Q3 2018: IDC

According to IDC, the global shipments of wearable devices reached 32.0 million units in the Q3 2018, up 21.7% from the previous year. New products from the likes of Fitbit, Garmin, and Huawei helped the basic wearables category return to growth during the quarter. Another factor was the growing demand in markets like Asia which accounted for more than half of all shipments and grew 21.4% compared to the previous year. OnePlus unveiled  its most expected OnePlus 6T smartphone couple of weeks back. In addition to several new camera features such as Nightscape for the best night shots and Studio lighting that uses face detection for the best portraits, the OnePlus 6T also comes with Google Lens built right into the camera app. Google Lens can not only detect an object, but it can also understand what it detects and offer actions based on what it sees. Google Lens can be accessed from ‘More’ option in the camera app.

Samsung, Verizon team up to bring first commercial 5G smartphone early 2019

Verizon and Samsung announced that they will bring the first commercial 5G smartphone to the market in the first half of 2019. The companies will unveil a proof of concept, powered by the upcoming flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon Mobile Platform with the Snapdragon X50 5G NR modem and antenna modules with integrated RF transceiver, RF front-end, and antenna elements, at the annual Qualcomm Snapdragon Technology Summit later this week. Google rolls out December 2018 Android security update for Pixel and Nexus devices, Improves memory and camera performance for Pixel 2 and 3 series

Qualcomm and Nokia announce the completion of 5G NR mmWave and Sub-6 GHz Over-the-Air interoperability

Qualcomm Technologies and Nokia have announced that they have successfully achieved over-the-air (OTA) 5G NR data calls in both the mmWave and sub-6 GHz spectrum bands. It is in compliant with the global 3GPP 5G NR Release 15 specification in NSA mode. The interoperability testing milestones were completed at Nokia’s 5G center of excellence in Oulu, Finland using commercially available Nokia AirScale base stations and a test device powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon X50 5G modem and antenna modules. Samsung Galaxy A8s with 6.39-inch Infinity-O FHD+ display, triple rear cameras to be announced on December 10

After Huawei confirmed the announcement of Nova 4 with in-display on December 17th, Samsung has confirmed that it will introduce its A8s smartphone with display hole for the camera on December 10th, a week before Huawei. FCC certification revealed a tall 19.5:9 aspect ratio display, and a space on the left corner of the phone for the display hole so that it doesn’t have any icons.
