OnePlus 6T with 6.41-inch FHD+ AMOLED 19.5:9 display, 8GB RAM, in-display fingerprint sensor announced starting at $549

OnePlus just announced its flagship OnePlus 6T smartphone at an event in New York, as it had promised. It has a larger 6.41-inch Optic AMOLED display with a tiny notch that also houses three-in-one ambient/distance/RGB sensor and front-facing camera. It has about 86% screen-to-body ratio and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 6. It is powered by Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform with up to 8GB of RAM, same as the OnePlus 6, but the base version of the 6T now comes with 128GB storage, instead of 64GB. It still has daily water-resistance so that the phone can withsand splashes and accidental spills, but it doesn’t have IP ratings. Honor View 10 EMUI 9.0 Android 9.0 Pie beta update starts rolling out in India

Huawei introduced EMUI 9.0 based on Android 9.0 (Pie) at the IFA 2018 last month. Earlier this month the company said that EMUI 9.0 will bring local language support, local calendar, deeper integration of Paytm, and more for India users. It also said that EMUI 9.0 will rolling out in beta for Huawei Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro, P20, P20 Pro, Honor 10, Honor View 10, and Honor Play soon. IBM to acquire Red Hat in a deal valued at $34 billion

IBM today announced that it has reached a definitive agreement with Red Hat, under which IBM will acquire all of the issued and outstanding common shares of Red Hat for $190.00 per share in cash, representing a total enterprise value of approximately $34 billion. Apple iPhone XR teardown reveals large rectangular battery, modular SIM card reader

Apple iPhone XR smartphone went on sale few hours back in over several countries and territories globally. As usual, folks at iFixit have already managed to grab the iPhone and have given at a teardown treatment as usual. We already know that the iPhone XR has a 2942mAh battery. The teardown reveals an 11.16Wh battery (2,944 mAh at 3.79V), which is bigger than the iPhone XS’s battery, but it is slightly smaller than the 3,179mAh battery on the iPhone XS Max. It is thicker since it packs more juice.

Microsoft completes $7.5 billion GitHub acquisition

Microsoft has announced that it has completed its acquisition of GitHub in a $7.5 billion all stock deal that was signed back in June. As both the companies already said, GitHub will retain its developer-first ethos, operate independently and remain an open platform. Nat Friedman, former CEO of Xamarin (acquired by Microsoft in 2016) will be taking over as GitHub’s CEO, reporting to Scott Guthrie, Microsoft Cloud + AI Group Executive Vice President.

Lenovo Z5 Pro with full-screen display, slide-out design, in-display fingerprint sensor to be announced on November 1

After the Z5 and S5 Pro, Lenovo is all set to introduce the Z5 Pro smartphone in China. The company’s CEO Chang Cheng has announced that the phone will be introduced on November 1st. He also posted a teaser of the smartphone that reveals a slide-out design, which is the latest trend in smartphone. The design reduces the bezels, offering high screen-to-body ratio.

Sony India has launched DSC-WX800 compact camera with  world’s smallest body in the Cyber-shot line-up. It offer versatile zoom range from 24mm at the wide end up to 720mm super-telephoto. In addition to 4K recording, it has BIONZ X image processing engine combined with a front-end LSI that delivers high-speed continuous shooting at up to 10 fps with a buffer limit of up to 155 images. Xiaomi Mi A2 6GB RAM, 128GB storage version launched in India for Rs. 17999

Xiaomi launched the Mi A2 Android One smartphone in India in 4GB RAM with 64GB RAM version back in August. It also launched the Red Edition last month. At the launch the company said that it will launch the 6GB RAM with 128GB storage version soon. After over three months, the company has launched the top-end version of the phone in the country. It doesn’t have any other changes other than RAM and storage.

WhatsApp Stickers finally starts rolling out [Update: Officially announced]

Update – October 26: WhatsApp has officially announced the stickers feature through a blog post. It also said that it has added support for third-party sticker packs to allow designers and developers to create stickers for WhatsApp. To do this, it has included a set of APIs and interfaces that allow developers to build sticker apps that add stickers to WhatsApp on Android or iOS. This can be published like any other app to the Google Play Store or Apple App Store, and users who download and install the app will be able to start sending those stickers right from within WhatsApp

It said that Stickers will be available for Android and iPhone over the coming weeks.

Meizu has announced Note8, the company’s latest mid-range smartphone in China, as it had promised. It has a 6-inch Full HD+ 18:9 aspect ratio display, is powered by Snapdragon 632 with 4GB of RAM, runs Android 8.1 (Oreo) with flyme OS on top, has a 12-megapixel rear camera with Dual PD auto focus,  Sony IMX362 sensor, f/1.9 aperture along with a 5-megapixel secondary camera for portraits. LG Q3 2018 profits up 47.9% YoY as mobile losses narrow

LG Electronics has reported revenues of 15.43 trillion won (US$ 13.76 billion) for the third quarter that ended September 30, 2018, which is up 1.3% compared to the same quarter last year. It posted profits of 748 bilion won (US$ 667.7 million), up 45% YoY, while net profit was 497.1 billion won (US$ 436.5 million) from 336.1 billion won, up 47.9% YoY. Increase in profits is due to strong returns from the home appliances business, however mobile sector has continued to post losses. Samsung Galaxy A6s with 6-inch FHD+ display, Snapdragon 660, 6GB RAM, dual rear cameras and Galaxy A9s with quad rear cameras announced

Samsung has introduced Galaxy A6s, a new mid-range smartphone as well as A9s with similar specifications as the recently-announced Galaxy A9 2018 (SM-A920F) in China. The A6s has a 6-inch FHD+ display, is powered by Snapdragon 660 with 6GB of RAM, runs Android 8.1 (Oreo), has a 12-megapixel rear camera with f/1.8 aperture, Dual Pixel technology along with a secondary 5-megapixel camera for AI portrait shots, and a 12-megapixel front camera.
