Craving the brand new HTC One M8 but don’t want the slick new Sense UI 6.0?  Hoping for HTC to launch a Google Play edition device? Well your wish just came true as HTC has announced that their new flagship will ship in both Google Play & Developer edition variants. The former device will eschew Sense UI for stock Android. This does mean that you will lose all the nifty additions brought on by Sense UI. Small price to pay for faster upgrades? Despite being the lower spec variant, to call it a mid range device would be unfair as it’s specs rival current flagship devices. At an event in Beijing, we just witnessed the launch of Oppo’s next flagship device. Dubbed the Find 7, the phone combines some hardware firsts with a range of software innovations to create a very intriguing product. Indeed, the phone brings some very tangible hardware innovations to create a smartphone that is geared towards giving users improvements that come in handy for day to day usage. Oppo unveiled its flagship Oppo Find 7, the successor of the Oppo Find 5, at an event in China few hours back. It has a gorgeous 5.5-inch Quad HD display at a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels and a TOL (Touch On Lens) module. The ultra-sensitive touch lets you use the phone even when it’s wet or when wearing gloves. It has a solid build and a similar design that we had seen on the Oppo Find 5. MWC 2014 was no different where we saw a lot of innovations aimed towards making technology more accessible and to make it work towards improving our life. Tablet optimized MIUI Android ROM makes its way to the Nexus 7

Xiaomi today launched an open beta for a tablet optimized version of the MIUI Android ROM. The company is first targeting the 2013 edition Nexus 7 with versions possibly coming for other devices too. Xiaomi claims that the ROM has a brand new architecture that has been optimized for tablet devices. The MIUI ROM works in both landscape and portrait orientation and has native apps, system menus and screen animations that have been optimized for tablets. Broadcom demos new 5G WiFi 2×2 MIMO Combo Chip for smartphones, to bring 867Mbps downloads

While the 802.11ac standard has started making its way to high end smartphones, they’ve been somewhat gimped compared to more full featured solutions. The new Broadcom BCM4354 SoC is all set to change that as it brings the first 5G 802.11ac 2×2 MIMO system on chip for smartphones. This is an improvement over the 1×1 MIMO devices used by current smartphones. The Nokia Lumia 630 (code named Moneypenny) has been rumored for a while now and thanks to Evleaks we now get a better look at the handset. The handset which’ll be announced around Build in April will run Windows Phone 8.1. The image reveals subtle breaks from the design language of the Lumia 620 and the 625. Samsung Galaxy S5 vs Samsung Galaxy S4: What has changed

The biggest expectation of the MWC 2014 had to be Samsung’s Unpacked 5 event where they were expected to announce the successor of Samsung Galaxy S4 and they did announce itSamsung Galaxy S5. While a lot of people weren’t convinced about the lack of design change from Samsung Galaxy S3 to Samsung Galaxy S4, even more people joined the skeptical lot as Samsung pulled a Samsung out of the hat and introduced the Samsung Galaxy S5 in a design and specs not so different from the predecessor – Galaxy S4.

FoneArena is live from Barcelona and we were there at Samsung’s really packed Unpacked event. After the unveiling, we were able to get a quick hands on with the device and in the short time, we compared it with the Samsung Galaxy S4. HP Slate 7 Extreme Hands on

FoneArena is live from MWC 2014 at Barcelona and we have a lot of manufacturers showcasing their products. We are at HP’s booth where they have on display – HP Slate 7 Extreme. HP had announced the HP Slate 7 Extreme sometime in September. HP Slate 7 Extreme is just a rebranded version of the NVIDIA Tegra Note and comes with HP’s own Direct Stylus. The HP Slate 7 Extreme looks like a variant of the NVidia Tegra Note, but with HP branding.

HP launched some of its voice enabled tablets in India earlier this month. Here at the Mobile World Congress we got a chance to check out some of the new products on offer. One of the most interesting products that HP brought to the trade show was its new Slate 8 Pro tablet.
