MediaTek, popular Taiwanese Chip maker is working on a new Hotknot proximity technology, a cheaper alternative to NFC, according to a recent report from EE Times-Asia. MediaTek has announced Pump Express fast-charging technology for smartphones and tablets. This is a system-on-a-chip (SOC) and DC wall charger technology to make battery recharge time quicker on smartphones and tablets. This reduces charging time by half or by up to 50%, says MediaTek. Airtel launches 4G on mobile, available for Apple iPhone 5s and 5c users in Bengaluru at 3G rates

Bharti Airtel has launched 4G on mobile starting from Bengaluru. Airtel announced their plans to roll out 4G LTE service on smartphones for customers in the city back in December. It also rolled out carrier settings update on the iPhone 5s and 5c that enables the 2300 MHz LTE (Band 40) on the smartphones. Few weeks back it conducted a soft launch, today it launched the service officially. Aircel appoints ZTE for 4G network deployment starting from Tamil Nadu and Chennai

Aircel has appointed China’s ZTE Corporation to supply and deploy its 4G network in India. ZTE had already partnered with Aitel to deploy 4G network in Kolkata and Chandigarh. We already reported that Aircel would start 4G LTE trial starting from Chennai by the end of 2013. Now Aircel has announced that LTE deployment will be initiated in Chennai, Rest of Tamil Nadu (RoTN) and few other business critical circles.

Airtel to launch 4G LTE on Smartphones in Bangalore this December

Airtel launched 4G LTE services in Pune last October, and rolled out the 4G TD-LTE  service in Kolkata,  Bengaluru and Punjab, but it doesn’t support voice or SMS currently. Earlier this year Airtel had announced that they would offer voice services for 4G customers in Pune. The company recently shared on Twitter that they plan to introduce 4G services for customers with 4G-enabled smartphones. How Broadcom is quietly “Connecting Everything”

The mobile handset market today is pretty much dominated with phones powered by either a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset or a MediaTek chipset. But there are certainly few other players as well.You might be aware of Samsung’s Exynos chips and also Apple’s own custom chips found on the iPhone and iPad. Then there are Nvidia & Intel too. Another player who is not very popular in the market at least in India is Broadcom. The company is finally talking and had invited us to a Mobility Roundtable in New Delhi few days back where I got to speak to several executives from the Irvine , California-based company. You might have heard about the Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos, which is one the most popular phones to be powered by a Broadcom BCM28155 chipset. Another device which was powered by the same chip was the Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus.

Aircel partners with D-Link to offer free 3G Data with select data cards and routers

Aircel has announced that they have partnered with D-Link, popular for its wireless networking device to offer 3G data benefits to its customers across India. This would let customers enjoy 1 GB of free 3G data per month for a period of 3 months for customers who activates Aircel 3G SIM on D-Link data card and DWM-156 and routers such as DWR-512 and DWR-730. Customers however need to make a recharge of Rs. 100 per month post activation to avail the benefits. MTS India rolls out 3GPLUS network powered by EV-DO Rev.B Phase II

Sistema Shyam TeleServices Limited (SSTL) that provides telecom services under the MTS brand has announced the commercial roll out of its 3GPLUS telecom network based the Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) Rev. B Phase II technology. The company received its third spectrum carrier from Department of Telecom (DoT) earlier this month, and MTS becomes the first telecom operator in India to provide 3GPLUS network coverage across all its 9 circles of operations, Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kolkata, Uttar Pradesh (West) and West Bengal. Airtel acquires 100% stake in Qualcomm’s 4G venture


Airtel announced that they have acquired 100% stake in Qualcomm Inc’s 4G venture. Airtel increased its stake to 51% from 49% back in July, which it acquired back in May 2012 by paying US$ 165 million (Rs 927.39 crore approx). Qualcomm won BWA Spectrum in Delhi, Mumbai, Haryana and Kerala circles in 2010 by paying about US$ 1 billion (Rs. 4912.54 crore approx) in the auction by DoT in June 2010 Department of Telecom (DoT). NTT Docomo to launch 150 Mbps Xi LTE service in Japan

NTT Docomo has started testing their enhanced Xi (read “Crossy”) LTE service that would offer download speeds of up to 150 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 50 Mbps. The first trial run would being in Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture from July 30th . Apart from improving the LTE service NTT Docomo has expanded their current 112.5 Mbps Xi LTE service to more than 130 cities in Japan as of this month. NTT Docomo launched the first Xi LTE service back in December 2010 that offered download speeds of up to 75 Mbps. It was upgraded gradually. Reliance Communications (RCom) has reduced the 3G rates by half for both the pre-paid and post-paid customers. Now 1GB of 3G data costs Rs. 123. The 2GB and 4GB 3G packs now cost Rs 246 and Rs 492 respectively. All these come with 30 days validity. The new rates are applicable in all the 13 circles across India. Recently Vodafone, Airtel, Idea and Videocon reduced 2G data rates. Airtel 4G plans now start from Rs. 450, partners with BigFlix and Indiagames for movies and games bundle


Airtel has introduced new plans for their 4G customers that now starts at Rs. 450. Airtel introduced 4G TD-LTE services last year, first in Kolkata with plans starting from Rs. 999 with 6GB of free monthly data. Now the new Rs. 450, Rs. Rs. 650 and Rs. 750 plans come with 2GB, 3GB and 4GB of free monthly data, respectively. Airtel has also increased the data limit for the plans starting from Rs. 999 which would come with 10GB of free monthly data limit.
