Intel is the new company to join the Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP). The A4WP technology uses near-field magnetic resonance technology to wirelessly charge devices. Intel joins several giants including Samsung, Qualcomm, LG and HTC as a board member of the group. The group has a total of 40 global, technology industry leaders. The aim of A4Wp is to create a wireless power transfer (WPT) ecosystem that delivers spatial freedom in the user experience and industrial design of wireless battery charging of portable consumer electronics device.

Pelican Imaging shows off Mobile array camera with 3D video capture, 3D printing and more

Pelican Imaging announced the array camera for smartphones earlier this year. Now the company has released a new video that show off the depth-enabled features of the array camera including 3D printing, all-in-focus image capture, linear measurement, and 3D video capture. The camera can capture still images and video footage with depth information of the scene. You can perform several actions such as refocusing, selecting multiple objects of focus, measuring distance between any two points, or creating a depth map/3D model of any scene. The camera is about 50% of the thickness of the top-end camera modules used in mobile phones says the company. ARM unveils Cortex-A12 Processor and Mali-T622 GPU aimed at mid-range smartphones and tablets

ARM has unveiled the the Cortex-A12 Processor and Mali-T622 GPU at the Computex 2013 in Taipei aimed at mid-range smartphones and tablets. The Cortex-A12 would offer 40 percent more performance than Cortex-A9, brings premium features such as virtualization, TrustZone and ARM’s big.LITTLE processing,  It is based on 28nm technology and is about 30 percent smaller in area compared to the Cortex-A9 processor in 40nm technology using the same configuration. The Mali-T622 GPU in the Mali-T600 series would offer 50% improvement over the first generation of the Mali-T600 series and supports OpenGL/ES 3.0. ARM unveiled the 2nd Gen T-600 GPUs, Mali-T624, Mali-T628 and Mali-T678 last year. No new 3G subscribers have been added in the intra-circle roaming areas, says Idea

The Delhi High Court issued notice against Idea Cellular for allegedly not complying with its earlier orders on 3G roaming. Idea Cellular has issued a statement regarding this saying that they have not added new 3G subscribers have been added in the 3G Seeker Service Areas as per its compliance affidavit dated 18th April 2013 with the order of the the Delhi High Court dated 12th April 2013. Mobile data usage nearly doubles in India, thanks to a 3x increase in 3G usage

According to a MBIT index study conducted by Nokia Siemens Networks, the 3G infrastructure provider for most of the networks in India, it has been revealed that the mobile data usage in the country has almost doubled in the period of December 2011 – 2012. The main reason for the increased usage in mobile data is attributed to 3 times increase in usage of 3G mobile data by consumers, mainly from, what operators call, the “A” circles. Apparently, a regular 3G user consumes an average of 434 MB per month while the average amount of data consumed by the 2G user is 115 MB per month. Ultimately, there has been a 92% total increase in the usage of mobile data, with a whopping 196% increase in 3G usage and a 66% increase in 2G usage.

If you follow the tech scene closely , you must have heard about these slightly expensive cameras sold in the name of Lytro. The main highlight of Lytro cameras is the ability to focus objects in the picture after you have clicked the picture. One company Pelican Imaging based in Mountain View, California ( yes the same town as Google) is working on array camera technology for mobile devices.And we might see one of the first devices with such technology debut in 2014 which is not that far away. Users always struggle to get the focus right on both cameras and mobile devices and a technology which promises Click now ,  focus later will be a a great solution and a feature to boast on your mobile phone. Airtel can continue 3G Intra-circle roaming, but cannot add new 3G customers in 7 circles, says SC

Supreme Court has ordered Bharti Airtel not to extend its 3G Intra-circle roaming services to new customers in the 7 circles, where it did not have licences for 3G spectrum, according to a report from The Economic Times. Airtel got a temporary relief earlier this week, when Supreme Court allowed them to continue their 3G intra-circle roaming till April 11th. Last month DoT had asked Bharti Airtel to stop 3G services in 7 circles and asked them to pay Rs. 350 crore (Rs. 50 crore per circle) for illegal roaming pact with Vodafone and Idea Delhi High Court temporarily stalled the execution of DoT’s order until the final hearing, after Airtel appealed against it. Airtel launches 4G LTE services in Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula in Punjab

Airtel has launched their 4G LTE services in Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula in Punjab and Haryana, followed by KolkataBengaluru and Pune. All the 4G plans remain the same, but Airtel has added a new plan called Break free Supreme that would offer 50GB of free data at Rs. 4,799. These plans are available for both the pre-paid and post-paid customers in Punjab.  There are also introductory cash back offers along with the new Break free Supreme plan for post-paid customers. Airtel can continue 3G Intra-circle roaming till final order, says Delhi HC

Delhi High Court has temporarily stalled the execution of the Department of Telecom’s (DoT) order asking Airtel to stop 3G services in 7 circles in 3 days, where they did not acquire the license, according to a recent report from Economic Times. Bharti Airtel challenged the DoT’s order in the Delhi Hight Court last week, and the court ordered them to pay Rs. 350 crore (Rs. 50 crore per circle) for violating licence norms. Airtel may stop 3G services in 7 circles by the end of this month

The Department of Telecom (DoT) may ask Bharti Airtel to stop 3G services in 7 circles in India, according to a recent report by Economic Times. DoT had already sent a notice to Airtel to stop their 3G services in these 7 circles including, Haryana, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh (East), Kolkata, Gujarat, Kerala and Madhya Pradesh.
