Asus MeMO Pad 8 vs Apple iPad Mini

Asus announced the MeMO Pad 8 (ME180A) at the IFA 2013 in Berlin last week. Apple launched the iPad mini, the company’s first 7.9 inch display last year. Since these two tablets are almost similar in the size, we managed do a hands on comparison at the IFA. The Asus MeMO Pad 8 has a 8-inch HD LED Backlit IPS multi-touch display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixel at 188 ppi pixel density. The iPad mini has a 7.9-inch LED Backlit IPS multi-touch display with a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixel at 162 ppi pixel density. The Memo Pad 8 uses a quad-core quad-core MediaTek MT8125 Cortex A7 chip clocked at 1.6 GHz with PowerVR SGX5 series GPU and runs on Android 4.2.2, while the iPad mini comes with a dual-core Cortex A7 chip with PowerVR SGX543MP2 GPU and runs on iOS 6.

Xolo has launched the Xolo Tab, the company’s first tablet. It went on sale online recently and packs  a 8-inch (1024 x 768 pixels) multi-touch display, powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 200 (MSM8225Q) processor with Adreno 203 GPU and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). It has a 2-megapixel rear camera with 720p HD video recording and a 0.3-megapixel (VGA) front-facing camera. It has 3G support via a SIM card slot and has voice calling capabilities. Xolo is all set to launch the company’s first tablet, the Xolo Tab. The tablet is now available on a online retail site Ezyby and has also appeared on the official website. It has a 8-inch (1024 x 768 pixels) multi-touch display, powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 200 (MSM8225Q) processor with Adreno 203 GPU and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). Lenovo has announced the S5000, a new tablet in the S series. It has a 7-inch (1280 x 800 pixels) wide-viewing angle display, powered by a 1.2 GHz Quad-Core Media Tek 8389 processor and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). It has a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 1.6-megapixel front-facing camera. It is just 7.9mm thick and weighs 246 grams.  It has rear speakers and packs a 3450 mAh battery that offers up to 8 hours of  continuous WiFi browsing. Asus has announced the Fonepad 7, successor of the Fonepad at the IFA 2013 in Berlin. It comes with a 7-inch (1280 x 800 pixels) IPS display with new smudge-resistant coating to prevent fingerprints, runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) and is powered by a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom Z2560 processor with Hyper-Threading technology. It has a 5-megapixel rear camera with 1080p full HD video recording and a 1.2 MP front-facing camera. It has metallic finish and comes with 3G HSPA+ 3G with up to 42Mbit/s download speeds with voice calling features. Asus Fonepad 7 video ad surfaces ahead of IFA announcement

Asus had introduced the original Fonepad at MWC 2013 earlier this year and the Fonepad saw a slight bump in the specifications sometime during summer. Asus just posted and removed a video ad for the yet another refresh of the Fonepad.

Lava E-Tab Velo+, a new tablet in the Lava’s E-Tab range is now available in India from online retailer Snapdeal. It has a has a 7-inch (800 x 480 pixels) capactive multi-touch display, powered by a 1 GHz Cortex A8 processor and runs on Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean), similar to the recently launched XTRON+. It has a 0.3-megapixel (VGA) front-facing camera, but lacks a rear camera. It doesn’t have a SIM card slot or voice calling capabilities, but supports dongles. Acer Iconia A3 with 10.1-inch HD display, quad-core processor, Android 4.2 announced

Acer announced the Iconia A1 tablet with a 7.9 inch display back in May, now it has announced the Iconia A3 tablet with a 10.1-inch (1280 x 800 pixels) IPS diplay. The Iconia A3 is also powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core cortex A7 processor (probably MediaTek) and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). It has a 5-megapixel rear camera and a front-facing camera. It comes in Wi-Fi-only and 3G + WiFi variants. It has Dolby Digital Plus that would offer 5.1 channel surround experience over headphones. No word on RAM and the battery capacity yet. Samsung launched the Tab 3 211 with 3G support and voice calling last month, along with the Tab 3 310 and 311. Now the Galaxy Tab 3 210, Wi-Fi variant of the tablet is available from online retailer Snapdeal. It has a 7-inch (1024×600) TFT LCD display, powered by a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). It has a 3-megapixel fixed focus rear-facing camera and 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. It doesn’t have a SIM card slot or voice calling capabilities like the Tab 3 211. LG G Pad 8.3 announced with Full HD display, Snapdragon 600 processor

LG had been teasing an upcoming tablet known as the G Pad 8.3 and today in Seoul , the company has finally taken the wraps of the LG G Pad 8.3 Android tablet and it does look like the big brother of the LG G2 smartphone which debuted recently. The GPad will be showcased at IFA 2013 in Berlin this week and true to its name it packs a 8.3 inch display with a massive 1920×1200 resolution similar to the resolution of the screen on the new Nexus 7 2013. On the inside it is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 Quadcore Processor running at  1.7GHz. LG has managed to pack a 4600 mAh battery into this device which is only about 8.3 mm thick and still weighs only about 338 grams. It runs on Android 4.2.2

Archos has unveiled its IFA line up early that includes range of Android tablets and a smartphone. The Archos 50 Oxygen smartphone features a full hd display  , 13-megapixel rear  camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. It would be powered by a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor and run on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). It would come with 16GB of internal storage. You might have seen us review the new Google Nexus 7 2013 a while back in which we concluded it is indeed an excellent small tablet, but as with any large screened device, especially ones that are imported from other countries, the risk of broken/shattered glass is high.
