Flipkart eBooks app is now available for iPhone, iPad and Windows Phone 8 devices. Flipkart launched eBooks services called Flyte back in November last year and launched their Android app along with that. Eventually Flipkart lost the Flyte branding and also shut down the music store recently. The eBooks app for these new platforms offer similar features as the Android app, including, option to preview books to purchase, offline support and personalized reading experience. You can now send Voice Messages on WhatsApp

WhatsApp has added an interesting new feature to the service in the form of push-to-talk Voice Messaging. You can send and receive voice messages  with your contacts on WhatsApp for free.Users must start seeing a microphone icon next to the text input area and you can press and record your voice message and send it. You can play the messages too once they are sent.I’m wondering how operators would react to this considering this might have an impact on traditional calls. LinkedIn has finally launched the native LinkedIn app for Nokia Asha full touch devices, including the latest Asha 501. The app offers rich, personalized stream of industry news and updates, Get to know who you are meeting by checking out their LinkedIn profile and quickly follow up with someone you’ve just met with connect on LinkedIn. The app was launched for Windows Phone devices back in April 2012 and got updated with Live Tile support, Speech recognition and more earlier this year. Bing gets a facelift on Windows Phone, adds new design and features

Bing, Microsoft’s answer to Google, is the default search app on Windows Phone with a dedicated key. The service received a substantial upgrade with the Windows Phone 8 update that brought panoramic quick access to relevant stories at that point in time. Otherwise the results have been similar since the inception of the OS and that has finally changed, with the new rollout that has started for the Bing Search app in Windows Phone. The new update brings a new layout and new features based on the Bing Neural network that works similar to the Knowledge graph from Google.

Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) update for the Google Play editions of the HTC One and the Samsung Galaxy S4 has finally started rolling out. This comes soon after both the HTC and Samsung releases the Kernel source code online. The Android 4.3 update for the Google Nexus devices started rolling out last week, soon after the announcement. Twine is a new flirting app for Android and iPhone. The app has been developed by strategy and design firm called Sourcebits and the tagline of the app reads “Never miss an interesting stranger”. The app connects you with people nearby that share similar interests with you. It signs in with your Facebook account matches your account with a suitable stragner of the opposite gender based common interests and also gives you interesting things to chat about with them. The company calls it gender-balanced flirting app since it provides spam-free experience with an even ratio of guys to girls to always get the perfect match. Sony Xperia Z Ultra gets its first software update

Sony Mobile has started rolling out the first firmware update v14.1.B.0.471 for the recently launched Xperia Z Ultra (C6802). The stock firmware is 14.1.B.0.461, so this might be a minor change. The baseband version and the kernel version has a minor change. The new firmware has a build date of July 19th. There is no changelog so this might be a an update to fix some bugs and improve the performance of the device. We did not notice any changes or any new apps on the device after the update. Gawbl was a start-up that began 7 months ago by Pune based team, led by its founder, ChiraghKirpalani. The Android app was launched back in April that offered recommendations in Pune. Google extends Windows Phone calendar and contact syncing deadline to December 31st

There was huge uproar after Google announced its plans to drop EAS support for all non-corporate GMail accounts, mainly because that affected Windows Phone, which has no in-built support for the new CardDAV and CalDAV technologies. Hence Microsoft and Google decided to extend the support for Windows Phone devices until July 31st, yesterday, a date from which devices without the GDR2 update would have stopped supporting syncing to Google servers. Thankfully, the companies have extended the date yet again, to December 31st, since most devices haven’t got the update yet.

Microsoft Office for Office 365 launched for Android phones

Microsoft has finally launched the Office app for Office 365 users using Android smartphones. Microsoft launched the Office Mobile for iPhone  back in June. This would let you open and edit Microsoft Office documets such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents. It also has support for charts, animations, SmartArt Graphics, and shapes just like the desktop app. You can open documents in the cloud on SkyDrive or SkyDrive Pro. You can edit and view documents offline but you need to be connected to the internet to save the changes on the cloud. Viber, cross platform VOIP (Voice Over IP) app for Android has been updated to version 3.1 that brings new features including option to send doodles over photos or create drawings, new emoticons, option to see when a message have been viewed by the recipient, support for more languages and lots more. Viber for other mobile platforms go updated to version 3.0 back in May and Viber apps for PCs and Macs were launched. BlackBerry has started rolling out a new BlackBerry OS 10.1 maintenance release update for both the BlackBerry Z10 and Q10 devices. The BlackBerry 10.1 update was announced back in May at the BlackBerry Live conference in Orlando that brought  HDR Camera, Better BlackBerry Hub features Support for PIN to PIN messages, Fine Cursor Control and lots more. The BlackBerry 10.1 started rolling out soon after the announcement. Now the BlackBerry 10.1 maintenance update brings BlackBerry Hub enhancements, Imprvements to BlackBerry World, New BlackBerry Balance features and more. Saavn Pro for Android officially launched, offers ad-free offline listening

Saavan, global music service announced their premium music service, Saavn Pro with offline and ad-free music listening back in February. The iPhone and iPad app got updated with Saavn Pro and new UI back in March, the Android app got updated earlier this month with Saavn Pro and New UI. This brings ad-free listening, offline downloads, improved audio quality and lots more. Unlike many other subscription services, users can opt-in to Saavn Pro directly on their mobiles. Hipstamatic Oggl and Oggl Pro bring Instagram sharing to Windows Phone

As reported earlier, Hipstamatic went on stage with Nokia at the Lumia 925 launch event and announced that they are bringing their currently iPhone exclusive Hipstamatic Oggl app to Windows Phone 8 devices from Nokia. Popular for its filters and the funky UI, the app remains the only official solution to post directly to instagram. But Hipstamatic does have its own community too and that’s called Oggl. The free Oggl app includes five pre-set lenses and films, and the ability to edit and share photos to Oggl, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The app is now available on the Windows Phone Store and you can get it here.
