Huawei planning to release its own operating system for smartphones dubbed ‘Kirin OS’

The Chinese manufacturer is apparently planning to introduce its own operating system for smartphones. The new OS is rumored to be named after their own chipsets – Kirin.

There was a rumor earlier that stated that ZTE and Huawei are partnering together to make their own OS in order to reduce their dependency on Android. Now reports suggest that Huawei is readying a new smartphone that will run its own Kirin OS out of the box. The new OS will be exclusive to Huawei and will be well optimized to work with Huawei’s Kirin chipsets.

Apart from smartphones, the OS should also run on their tablets as well. We aren’t sure when exactly the handset will be released and whether it will actually have its own OS but we will let you know when we get to know more information about it.

While it is nothing but a rumor at this point, it will be interesting to see how exactly Huawei plan to promote their OS and make it stand out from the rest. It will be a tough challenge to convince users to switch to a new OS especially when Android and iOS are clear favourites at the moment.
