Canonical has partnered with Meizu to introduce Meizu PRO 5 Ubuntu Edition, ahead of MWC 2016 next week. “This is the fifth Ubuntu device launched by Canonical and its partners in the last twelve months and the most sophisticated and feature-rich Ubuntu phone in the market,” said Canonical. It has similar specifications as the original Meizu PRO 5 that was introduced last year, but this comes only in 3GB RAM with 32GB storage variant. Canonical has partnered with Spanish OEM Bq to introduce Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition, which is the first commercial Ubuntu tablet and is also the first one to offer an Ubuntu convergent experience. “It can switch to an Ubuntu PC when connected with a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, or when using the micro HDMI port to connect to an external monitor,” said the company. Aquaris E4.5 and Aquaris E5 Ubuntu Edition smartphones have been launched in India on Snapdeal. These are made by Spanish handset maker BQ. The Aquaris E4.5 went on sale in Europe back in February and packs a 4.5-inch qHD screen and the Aquaris E5 HD was introduced in June and packs a 5-inch HD display. Meizu, Canonical sign strategic agreement, Ubuntu-powered Meizu MX smartphone coming in Q1 2015?

Chinese phone maker Meizu has signed a strategic agreement with Canonical, the company confirmed on their Facebook page. The reason for the deal signed by Canonical CEO Jane Silber on November 25 at Meizu’s HQ in Zhuhai, China is not know yet. According to Chinese website MyDrivers, Meizu said that Ubuntu-powered Meizu MX series smartphone would be released in Q1 2015 in China and Europe. Hands-on: Ubuntu for Phones on Nexus 4

Canonical released the Ubuntu Developer Preview for phones and tablets few hours back, and we installed it on the Google Nexus 4. Ubuntu showed off the Ubuntu for phones running on the Galaxy Nexus at the International CES 2013 last month. The Ubuntu OS for phones intuitive gesture-based User Interface that offers completely new user experience, right from the lock screen. You can just swipe to from right to left to unlock the screen. The screen shows graphical representation of several things, for example the orangeness increases based on the volume of tweets.

Ubuntu Developer Preview for Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, 7 and 10 now available

Canonical has finally released the developer preview of Ubuntu Touch Developer Preview for phones and tablets as they promised. All you need is a computer running on Ubuntu OS and any of these Nexus devices, the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, Nexus 7 or the Nexus 10. There are images and complete instructions for installation. Canonical has announced the Ubuntu for Tablets. It has unique side stage that places a phone and a tablet app on the same screen at the same time, providing true multitasking capabilities. Other main features include, secure multi-user support with full encryption, Voice controlled HUD, edge magic for navigation between apps, settings and controls. Ubuntu for phones was announced last month, and the developer preview for Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4 are expected later this week. Canonical has announced that the Touch Developer Preview of Ubuntu for Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4 smartphones would be available from 21st February. Canonical announced Ubuntu OS for smartphones last month, and we brought you a demo of the Ubuntu OS running on the Galaxy Nexus from the International CES 2013. At CES Canonical said to us that they are in talks with several OEMs to launch a Ubuntu smartphone. Earlier this month Canonical CEO Mark Shuttleworth announced that the Ubunutu would be available devices as early as October 2013. Ubuntu Smartphone Devices to Ship Starting October 2013

The Ubuntu operating system for Smartphones was recently unveiled with its radical UI and user experience getting much praise and accolade from the tech press. We took a hands on look at the Ubuntu OS running on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, at the International CES 2013 and we were quite impressed with it. Canonical inc., the minds behind the OS promised to bring a very similar experience from the desktop Ubuntu OS that is widely installed by various classes of consumers, to the smartphone experience. And they have just done that, with the Ubuntu for Smartphones. While we got to know about the software, the hardware was literally non existent at the OS launch, but that might be fixed real soon with Canonical CEO Mark Shuttleworth promising devices as early as October 2013.

Ubuntu for phones hands-on

Canonical announced Ubuntu OS for smartphones last week, and here we have a video demo of the Ubuntu OS running on the Galaxy Nexus. The Ubuntu OS for phones has an intuitive gesture-based User Interface, right from the lock screen. The colors in the phone OS are similar the Ubuntu for desktops. It also has a sidebar to access apps quickly.
