We have been taking a look at the Smartphone market through the regular analyses from the folks at IDC, and the report for the 3rd quarter of 2013 is now out. The key takeaways from this quarter is that the overall smartphone market has grown at a record breaking pace, with 38.8% growth. The total Smartphone shipments are now at 258.4 million, higher than the earlier record last quarter, which was 237 million. The overall mobile phone market is now at a healthy 467.9 million shipments, with over 55% of the shipments being Smartphones. We saw smartphones surpass the feature phones this year, and the gap has widened even further. This is all attributed to the explosive growth in China, which contributes to more than 1/3rd of the total smartphone shipments.

Sony Xperia C Unboxing
The Sony Xperia C was launched way back in June, with aspirations of reaching the mid range with a similar design language and decent internals. We will be finding that out in our review, but here’s a quick unboxing of the retail package and its contents of the Sony Xperia C –

Panasonic P11 Unboxing
Panasonic might have announced its retirement from the consumer smartphone market worldwide, but weirdly enough, that has not stopped the company from launching devices in India. One of them is the Panasonic P11, which seems like a specced down version of the P51 that we reviewed earlier. The P11 has almost the same specifications as the P51, with a quad core 1.2 GHz processor, 4GB of internal storage, but running on the older Android 4.1 operating system. But what’s striking is the outer shell, in a radical fluorescent green colour. But not to worry, there are replaceable covers in the box, which we show you in the unboxing video here –

The HTC One mini was announced as the company’s answer to people wanting a compact version of the popular flagship – One, but it arguably did a “mini” on the specifications too, which left people wanting more, especially with that price tag. As if things couldn’t get any worse, the One mini has finally gotten its official launch in India, and it has a MOP price of Rs. 36,790, well above the earlier price some e-tailers had posted.
