Microsoft adds two more OEMs to the Windows Phone lineup – Blu and Amagatarai K-Touch
Microsoft had some strategic announcements during the Mobile World Congress, in which they announced the addition of new OEM partners that had signed up for making Windows Phone devices. Some of the new additions were Indian manufacturers like Lava, Xolo, Karbonn and later Micromax. In that lineup, we have two more OEMs added to the lineup today, and they are BLU and K-Touch. BLU is possibly the Micromax of the US while K-Touch is known for being an OEM as well as a ODM, which does contract manufacturing for other companies. The addition of these two new OEMs means a wider range of Windows Phone 8.1 devices that are all set to be released in the coming months. Will the third ecosystem finally pick up some steam?

Samsung and Apple are still the leading smartphone vendors by shipments in Q1 2014, according to a report by Research Firm IDC (International Data Corporation). The worldwide smartphone market grew 28.6% year-over-year in the Q1 2014, with shipments of 281.5 million units in the quarter, down 2.8% compared to last quarter. Geeksphone Revolution receives price cut, to get Cyanogenmod 11
Geeksphone is lowering the price of its multi-OS smartphone Revolution from May 1. The Spanish smartphone maker announced the smartphone that runs on Android and Mozilla was first announced in January this year.

Blackphone to be powered by Nvidia Tegra 4i processor
Blackphone will feature Nvidia’s Tegra 4i chipset to handle application processing and the connectivity. Announced at the MWC 2014, the phone which is touted as the most secure phone. SGP, a joint venture of Silent Circle and Geeksphone have developed the Blackphone which went for pre order in February 24 costs $629 and will ship from June in US and Europe.

OnePlus, a technology startup that started teasing the OnePlus One smartphone has finally revealed the design and complete features of the phone as it promised. It has a 5.5-inch (1920 ×1080 pixels) Full HD LTPS display from JDI with Corning gorilla glass 3 protection, powered by a 2.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 (MSM8974AC) processor with Adreno 330 GPU and runs on CyanogenMod 11S based on Android 4.4 (KitKat). It has a 13-megapixel camera Sony IMX214 stacked sensor with 6-element lens, f/2.0 aperture, dual LED flash 4K video recording and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture.

Worldwide smartphone sales hit 267 million in Q1 2014: Trend Force

Emerging markets and China have resulted in an uptake in global smartphone sales in the first quarter of 2014, according to a latest report from Trend Force. The market research firm says that smartphone shipment worldwide hit 266.9 million units and improved by 1.13% in the first quarter of 2014.

Apple, Google, Microsoft, Samsung and others commit to Anti-theft smartphone measures

Smartphone makers Apple, Google, HTC America, Huawei, Motorola Mobility, Microsoft, Nokia and Samsung and the U.S. telecom operators AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular and Verizon Wireless have signed a new Anti-Theft Voluntary Commitment to agree that new smartphones manufactured after July 2015 and sold in the United States would have a anti-theft tool pre-loaded or available for download to remote wipe the smartphone data remotely and also kill the smartphone when required. Samsung has finally announced the Galaxy Ace Style that surfaced online recently. It has a 4-inch (800 × 480 pixels) display, powered by a 1.2 dual-core processor and runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat) with new Touchwiz UI. It comes with a 5-megapixel auto focus rear camera and a 0.3-megapixel (VGA) front-facing camera.
