LG’s first QHD phone, the G3, may be available for online pre-sale in India, but the device still hasn’t seen an official launch in the country.However, a teaser (a bad one at that) from the Korean fabricator reveals that the device will see a launch on the 21st this month, which is just over a week away from now. Global mobile device shipment to surpass 2.4 billion in 2015, tablets to overtake PC: Gartner

Worldwide combined shipments of devices like PCs, tablets, ultra mobiles and mobile phones are projected to reach 2.4 billion units in 2014, a 4.2 percent increase from 2013, according to Gartner. The research firm further stated that 321 million tablets and will ship worldwide, up from 256 million in 2014.

Vertu and Bentley sign five-year partnership to make luxury smartphones

Google reportedly teams up with MediaTek for Android One devices

Google announced Android One at the recent Google I/O developers conference. The new program targeted at the emerging markets like India, Brazil and others will let OEMs create low cost handsets. Now, according to a report by Digitimes, Google is collaborating with chip maker MediaTek for this initiative which aims to reach the next 5 billion users.

Samsung Gear Live goes up or Pre-Order on Play Store in US, ships July 9th

The Samsung Android Wear device which was leaked before Google I/O was officially announced today during the keynote as the Samsung Gear Live which is the company’s first Android wear device. Unlike other Samsung smartwatches which work only with select Samsung Android phones, this watch will work on any Android phone running Android 4.3 and up which is interesting.It is also water and dust resistant.

ZTE to roll out six smartphones including 4G handsets in India in 2014

ZTE has announced its plans to expand operations in India by launching six new smartphones this year. The Chinese telecom maker made its debut in India last year in July by launching smartphones and 3G data cards.

Microsoft adds two more OEMs to the Windows Phone lineup – Blu and Amagatarai K-Touch

windows-phone-oem-blu-k-touchMicrosoft had some strategic announcements during the Mobile World Congress, in which they announced the addition of new OEM partners that had signed up for making Windows Phone devices. Some of the new additions were Indian manufacturers like Lava, Xolo, Karbonn and later Micromax. In that lineup, we have two more OEMs added to the lineup today, and they are BLU and K-Touch. BLU is possibly the Micromax of the US while K-Touch is known for being an OEM as well as a ODM, which does contract manufacturing for other companies. The addition of these two new OEMs means a wider range of Windows Phone 8.1 devices that are all set to be released in the coming months. Will the third ecosystem finally pick up some steam?

Sony XPERIA Z2 Unboxing

However due to certain production issues, the phone’s availability has been very scarce. It’s available in Singapore currently and it’s availability has been announced around Europe as well. Samsung and Apple are still the leading smartphone vendors by shipments in Q1 2014, according to a report by Research Firm IDC (International Data Corporation). The worldwide smartphone market grew 28.6% year-over-year in the Q1 2014, with shipments of 281.5 million units in the quarter, down 2.8% compared to last quarter.
