Xiaomi reveals: 15,000 Mi 3 units up for sale on August 5

The first two Xiaomi flash sales left quite a few disappointed, after they were unable to purchase the device. Both times, the Mi 3 went out of stock pretty quickly; 39 minutes the first time, and an astounding 5 seconds is what the Xiaomi Mi 3 took to go out of stock during the first and second flash sales respectively.

LTE version of the Xiaomi Redmi Note glimpsed in spy shots

We have spoken about a 4G LTE variant of the Xiaomi Redmi Note that was believed to be in the works previously, but today was the first time that we got to have a look at the very device. Ditching the octa-core MediaTek processor for a better-compatible, quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 MSM8928, the 4G LTE version of the Redmi Note looks more or less identical to the initial version. The Redmi (Hongmi) got similar treatment from Xiaomi when it was updated to a Snapdragon 400 SoC from the MT6582 earlier this year.

Record 295.3 million smartphones shipped in Q2 2014: IDC

Worldwide smartphone market grew 23.1% year-over-year in the Q2 2014, with record shipments of 295.3 million units in a single quarter in Q2 2014, up 2.6% compared to last quarter, according to a report by Research Firm IDC (International Data Corporation). The main reason for increase in shipments is rapid growth of low-end smartphones and decrease in shipments of feature phones. Global mobile device shipment to surpass 2.4 billion in 2015, tablets to overtake PC: Gartner

Worldwide combined shipments of devices like PCs, tablets, ultra mobiles and mobile phones are projected to reach 2.4 billion units in 2014, a 4.2 percent increase from 2013, according to Gartner. The research firm further stated that 321 million tablets and will ship worldwide, up from 256 million in 2014.
