Motorola has finally announced the Moto G, the company’s latest budget smartphone as they promised. It has a 4.5-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) edge-to-edge display at 329 ppi with Corning Gorilla Glass protection, powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor and run on Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) with upgrade to Android 4.4 (KitKat) soon. It has a 5-megapixel rear camera with 720p HD video recording and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. It has a water resistant coating both on outside and inside for complete protection. Yet another Smartphone OS in an already crowded market? Is there a breathing gap for platforms with differentiated offerings? So many questions needed answering when the Firefox OS was announced. And now it is here, residing within a handful of devices. Firefox OS might be the litmus test for a new OS’ sustainability in a fiercely competitive market. And for sustainability, any OS needs hardware, and tailored ones are the demand of the day. So Firefox announced their partnerships with several manufacturers for manufacturing low cost devices to push their platform forward to the ideal first smartphone user segment. ZTE is one of them, and one of their first devices featuring the Firefox OS is the ZTE Open.

The name Open signifies Firefox’s mobile vision in a word. The platform is based on web technologies, and much like Firefox, the browser, most apps it has run on HTML5 or Javascript. Previously we had seen phones or apps based on web technologies didn’t perform that well, and that was exactly the case with FFOS too, when we had last seen the ZTE Open at the MWC event. LG announced the Optimus L1 II, an entry-level 3G phone in L Series II back in August, now the dual-SIM variant of the phone, the Optimus L1 II Dual is available in India from online retailer HomeShop18 . It has a 3.0-inch (320 x 240 pixels) capacitive touch screen  display, powered by a 1 GHz processor and runs on Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean). It comes with a 2-megapixel rear camera with VGA video recording. It has QuickMemo app to jot notes quickly and Cheese Shutter to capture images using voice. It comes with dual SIM support with dual standby and a dedicated SIM switch key similar to the other dual SIM L Series II devices. Tegra Note tablet with NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor goes on pre-order in the US and UK

NVIDIA announced the Tegra Note back in September. The tablet is designed by NVIDIA and is manufactured by several partners  in range of countries worldwide. NVIDIA has announced that the Tegra Note is available for pre-order in the U.S and U.K. It is manufactured by EVGA in the U.S. and ADVENT in the UK. NVIDIA has also partnered with PNY Technologies in North America, ADVENT, EVGA, Oysters and ZOTAC in Europe, Gigabyte, Shenzhen Homecare Technology and ZOTAC in Asia-Pacific and XOLO in India to sell the device. Gionee GPad G3 went on sale online last month, now the company has officially launched the smartphone in India. It is the successor of the GPad G2 that was launched back in May and packs a 5.5-inch (854 × 480 pixels) capacitive touch screen display, powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6589 processor and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). Google Nexus 5 Camera Samples

Google unveiled their latest flagship smartphone – Google Nexus 5 on November 1st and the device went on sale immediately in US and other countries. For a change, the Nexus 5 was listed as coming soon in Indian Play Store right from the first day and it is expected to be available before the end of the month(Already available from other online sellers). One of the pitfalls about the Nexus phones have been their poor camera and it was very evident in the Google Nexus 4 which took below average 8MP shots. The latest Google Nexus 5 comes with a similar 8MP unit, but this time it has OIS(Optical Image Stabilization) for better low light photos and shake free videos.

It has a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. It has Dual SIM (GSM + GSM) with Dual Standby and comes with 2G (EDGE) support. Other than the display resolution and the software, most of the specifications are similar to its predecessor. Oppo N1 Photo Gallery

Oppo, one of the few Chinese companies that value design, had announced their first camera-centric flagship device Oppo N1 sometime back in September. Oppo N1 brings two innovations along with it – the swiveling camera on the top and OTouch rear sensor. The Oppo N1 is also the first phablet from the Chinese company with a huge 5.9 inch screen. We were astounded by the build quality that Oppo Find 5 brought along and we are so glad that it got even better in the Oppo N1. Lenovo Vibe Z (K910), the company’s latest flagship smartphone surfaced in China last month. Now the phone is official in China through Lenovo’s website. It has a 5.5-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) IPS  display at 400 PPI, powered by a 2.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor and runs on Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean) with Vibe ROM on top. Xiaomi sells 380,000 devices in a few hours on Singles day in China

Xiaomi, the company that has recently been in the spotlight for a wide variety of reasons, has just sold 380,000 devices in just a few hours on Singles day in China. A quick TIL fact – Singles day in China is a massive day for shopping, like, for example Diwali in India or Thanksgiving, in the US. It has been reported that this day is perhaps better(in terms of sales) than the Cyber Monday that the US observes. The day, also known as the “Anti-Valentines” day, majorly consisting of singles from all around China having parties and such, spurs shopping of around 2 billion US dollars all over the country, and Xiaomi seems to have nicely stocked up for the demand, as you can see from the image above, taken by the International Chief and previously VP of Android, Hugo Barra.
