Android 4.4+ KitKat will not ship with a browser, OEMs have to license Google Chrome or develop own browsers

Android is currently the number one smartphone OS in the world and as we all know Google owns Android(literally). However, because of various patent issues, Microsoft are reported to be making more money from Android than Google. This has been a huge problem for the search engine giant and they are working on it in their own terms. Android is open source and so every manufacturer forks Android and uses it, but they have to license Google Apps from Google. In the recent times, Google has been trying to distance itself from Android and trying to create a brand of its own which is profitable for them. This was evident when they renamed Android Market as “Google Play Store”.

The device runs on a 1.3 GHz Quad Core Cortex A7 processor and has 1 GB of RAM, with 4 GB of internal storage augmented with a micro SD expansion slot if needed. There is also a 5 MP camera on the back with a single LED flash and this phone unsurprisingly runs on the company’s own Color OS, with Android 4.2.2 underneath. The device, at 3,468 Yuan = 570 USD = 35,700 INR is set for a global December availability. Google launched their latest flagship smartphone – Google Nexus 5 and like most flagships of the later half of 2013, it is equipped with a Full HD display and is powered by Snapdragon 800 SoC. The 720p HD display on the yesteryear flagship – Google Nexus 4 definitely wasn’t the best display we have seen and we are going to see if things got better atleast in the Google Nexus 5. Google Nexus 4 was made by LG and it was based on their Optimus G smartphone and the trend continued this year as Google Nexus 5 is based on LG G2 and is manufactured by LG.

Demystifying the Google Nexus 5’s HDR+ mode, what does it actually do?

The Google Nexus 5‘s 8 megapixel camera has been a hot topic of discussion ever since it made its way into the market. With people getting their hands on it the day after it released, various reports came in. Some said the camera was average, some said the camera was great, and some said one must always use the in-built HDR mode for the best pictures. It definitely got us intrigued, especially with Google promoting the HDR+ mode one its Nexus 5 product page as “With HDR+, create vivid photos by day and sharper photos by night.” Technically, HDR directly means “Higher dynamic range” which will fuse multiple exposures and output a single photo that is equally exposed, but that doesn’t seem right in line with Google’s description, does it? Well, we set to find out exactly what it does, and the results are quite interesting, to say the least.
