After rolling out pilots in several cities, Airtel Payments Bank, a subsidiary of Bharti Airtel today rolled out its banking services at 250,000 banking points in all the 29 states across the country. Airtel retail stores across the country will also function as banking points, and customers will be able to open savings accounts, deposit and withdraw cash across any of these banking points. Followed by Airtel, Idea Cellular has launched new packs for pre-paid and post-paid customers that offers additional free data for customers with 4G handsets as well as unlimited calls. Idea said that the new initiative will allow customers to avail 12 months free data worth up to Rs. 9,000 on a new 4G handset.

Google Play had launched carrier billing for Idea customers in India in May last year. Now, it has expanded the service to Airtel as well as Vodafone. Carrier billing will now allow Airtel and Vodafone customers to pay for apps, games, and books on Google Play directly from their pre-paid or post-paid account. Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has questioned Reliance Jio to explain why extension of its free voice and data plan should not be seen as violation of existing regulations requiring promotional offers to be limited to 90 days. Reliance Jio has sought additional time till December 29 to respond to TRAI’s query.
