MTS India receives its 3rd carrier in the 800 MHz spectrum from DoT

Sistema Shyam TeleServices Limited (SSTL) that nationally operates its telecom services under the MTS brand has announced that ihas received its 3rd carrier in the 800 Mhz spectrum band from the Department of Telecom (DoT). This would let them launch its next generation, REV B Phase II telecom services says the company. Vodafone plans to increase its stake in the Indian unit


Vodafone in planning to buy out minority shareholders in its Indian arm for about US$2 billion, according to a recent report from the Financial Times. Vodafone owns about 64% of Vodafone India. Piramal Healthcare run by Billionaire industrialist Ajay Piramal has 11% stake and the remaining 25% stake is controlled by undisclosed minority shareholders. Videocon Telecom plans to bid for 900 MHz specturm for Delhi in 2014 auction

Videocon Telecom, the telecommunication arm of the Videocon group has announced that they have planned to participate in the upcoming spectrum Auction and bid for the 900 MHz license for Delhi. The company rolled their services in 3 out of 6 circles they acquired in November 2012 auction, after it lost its license in 21 circles after high court order. The company has improved its network presence in the four operating circles including Punjab and  plans to roll out the services in remaining 3 circles within the next 12 months. MTS India is the first operator in the country to get a unified telecom license

The Cabinet has approved the New Telecom Policy 2012 back in May 2012 which was the main reason for the introduction of free roaming across the country at a nominal cost and the upcoming Full Mobile Number Portability (MNP). It also stressed on single license across India under a new unified licence regime that prevents a separate license for the operators. Now MTS India, which operates under Sistema Shyam TeleServices (SSTL) has announced that they have received its Unified Telecom License. Champion Technologies has partnered with BSNL to launch the Champion, Trendy 531. It has a 5.3-inch display, powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). It has a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED Flash and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. It comes with dual SIM support with dual standby and 3G connectivity. The display resolution is not mentioned. TRAI recommends pan-India Mobile Number Portability within 6 months

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released recommendations for Pan-India Mobile Number Portability (MNP). Full Mobile Number Portability (MNP) was expected in February earlier this year, but it didn’t happen due to issues with the implemenation. Now TRAI has announced that it would recommend 6 months for the operators to roll out full MNP across the country. Videocon launches new packs with free incoming calls while roaming on other networks


Videocon Mobile Services was the first operator in India to offer incoming calls free while on roaming on their own network by default, without any processing fee or a special tariff voucher. Now the company has launched 3 new free National Incoming Roaming packs starting at Rs. 4. The new packs are aimed towards increasing consumer delight by cutting down roaming costs by 90% on rack rate, says Videocon. Aircel launches new 10 paise per minute local calling packs in Delhi

Aircel has launched two new rate cutters for pre-paid customers in Delhi that offers local calling rates 90% less at 10p/min. These packs are price at Rs. 27 and Rs. 11 respectively. The Rs. 27 pack offers all local calls at 10p/min for first 100 minutes and post that 40 paise per minute. It comes with a validity for 21 days.
