Huawei launched the Ascend Mate with a 6.1-inch HD display in India earlier today. We brought you the unboxing of the device earlier today, here we have the benchmarks of the device. The Ascend Mate is powered by a the Huawei’s own K3v2 processor developed by HiSilicon Technologies from Huawei. It has four 4 ARM Cortex A9 cores based on ARMv7 architecture. The chip is based on 40nm technology. It has a 16-core Vivante GC4000 GPU. Huawei uses the same CPU and the GPU in the Media Pad FHD.

The Huawei Ascend Mate was launched at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January and has then evaded the Indian market until now. Today, the company has launched its ambitious phablet device with a massive 6.1 inch screen at a price tag of Rs. 24,900, just weeks after Samsung continued their trend of releasing phablet devices with the Galaxy Mega series. The Indian market seems to have likened to the big screen phenomena and the Ascend Mate is hoping to address at least a part of it. The device just landed in our labs and here is our ritualistic unboxing video below –

Huawei has launched the Ascend Mate, the company’s latest flagship Android smartphone in India. It went on sale online few days back. It has a  6.1-inch 720p display with Corning Gorilla glass protection. It features magic touch technology that would let you use the phone even with gloves. It is powered by a 1.5 GHz quad-core Hi-Silicon K3V2 processor and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) with Huawei’s Emotion UI 1.5 on top. TRAI: Roaming charges for Calls and SMS to be cheaper from July 1st

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has reduced the limit for national roaming tariff for calls and SMS. They have also issued a new regime for the telecom providers to offer unlimited roaming through Special Tariff Vouchers (STVs) and Combo Vouchers. Sony Xperia ZR now available in India for Rs. 29990


Sony Xperia ZR that went on pre-order online last week is now available for purchase from online retailers in India. The durable smartphones was announced last month and has IP55 and IP58 ratings for dust and water resistance. It has a 4.55-inch HD (1280×720 pixels) Reality display with mobile Bravia Engine 2 and is powered by 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm APQ 8064 processor with Adreno 320 GPU and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). It packs a 13-megapixel auto focus rear camera with LED Flash, Exmor RS sensor for HDR images and offers underwater image and video capture since it is water resistant up to 1.50 meters for up to 30 minutes. Micromax launched the A88 Canvas Music, the first Music Phone in the Canvas series last month. It has a 4.5-inch  (854 x 480 pixels) display and run on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). It is powered by a 1 Ghz dual-core MediaTek MT6577 processor based on ARM Cortex A9 with PowerVR SGX531 GPU. Here are the benchmarks of the device compared to other Android smartphones.

Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 up for pre-order at Rs. 30990

Samsung launched the Galaxy Mega 6.3 (GT-I9200) in India at a price tag of Rs. 31,490 along with the Mega 5.8. The Mega 5.8 went on sale in India last month, now the Mega 6.3 is available for pre-order from online retailers Flipkart and Infibeam. The official Samsung eStore has not started taking pre-orders for the device yet. The Mega 6.3 has a 6.3-inch HD ( 1280 x 720 pixels) TFT capacitive touch screen display, powered by a 1.7 GHz dual-core processor and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). It has a 8MP auto-focus rear camera with LED Flash and a 1.9 MP front-facing camera. Swipe Telecom has tied-up with MTV once again to launch the MTV Volt 1000, successor of the Volt that was launched earlier this year.  It has a 6-inch (854 x 480 pixels) capacitive touch screen display, powered by a 1 GHz dual-core processor and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). It has a 8-megapixel rear camera with LED Flash and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. This has 1GB of RAM instead of 512MB in its predecessor and the battery has gone down to 2850 mAh. This would let Aircel customers download more than 20,000+ videos across more than 12 languages including English, Hindu, Marathi, Gujarati, Assamese, Bhojpuri, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and more at Re. 1 per video. There are 8 genres including bollywood, Hollywood, realty, lifestyle, music, comedy and more. Airtel launched a similar Re. 1 mobile video download service last month. AMD powered Android devices coming soon

We were at the AMD India Techno Graffiti event last night, and during the Q&A session we asked the all important question of AMD’s future in mobile. The answer first was in the context of mobile being laptops and tablets and how AMD are going for the hybrid nascent segment of low powered computing devices unlike the cheaper small-screened consumption devices. But when asked if Android powered devices are a possibility with AMD chip powering them, the answer was yes. AMD India’s head told us that AMD is working on bringing Android powered devices to its portfolio but couldn’t say when.

Huawei Ascend Mate, the company’s latest flagship smartphone is now available in India from online retailer Infibeam. It was spotted on Flipkart along with a price tag earlier this week, but the page was removed later. It packs a 6.1-inch 720p display, powered by a 1.5 GHz quad-core Hi-Silicon K3V2 processor and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) with Huawei’s EmotionUI 1.5 on top. Indian Railways to introduce SMS-based ticket booking from July 1st

IRCTC  has announced that SMS-based ticket booking on July 1st. IRCTC would also launch the  USSD (Unstructured supplementary data) based booking soon. The designated number for booking would be unveiled later. For the SMS-based ticket service, customers need to register with their banks (26 banks are supported) to generate a Mobile Money Identifier (MMID) and a one-time password (OTP). For the menu-based USSD system, the payment can be authorized through a mobile wallet which requires mPIN. 6 tickets can be booked in a single transaction similar to the online booking.
