Sony Socialife or Sony’s news app that comes per-loaded on Xperia smartphones, is not exclusive to Xperia smartphones anymore. The Japanese manufacturer has released the app on Google Play for all Android smartphones running on Android 4.1 or later. The app crossed 10 million downloads recently, which now has over 13 million downloads, says the company. Looks like it is still exclusive to Sony Xperia tablets. Sony launched the Xperia Z2 at the Mobile World Congress event here in Barcelona, Spain. The Z2 is an evolutionary upgrade over the Z1 and fixes every complaint people had with the Z1, like it has a better display, a way better build with a stunningly thin and premium design and overall a better package for a flagship. This also includes the new software work that Sony has done, because the Z2 is the first Android 4.4 device from the company and it brings a lot of new improvements to the looks as well as features that previously didn’t exist. While there are a lot of under the hood improvements, we took a look at some of the user facing features of the new skin on the Xperia Z2 –

Amongst the high spec devices launched by Sony, the M2 emerged as the device aimed at the mid range segment. The phone that has a design language decidedly similar to the flagship Z2. The front of the phone has a large 4.8 inch display that has a resolution of 540×960 pixels. First impressions with the hardware definitely left a positive impression as we quite liked the solid construction. Sony has announced its new range of Android products as well as its flagship device ie the Xperia Z2 here at Mobile World Congress. The phone is more of an iterative update than a complete reimagining of the Xperia Z1 and so manages to maintain the same design identity. The design continues to be a combination of glass and brushed aluminum and looks absolutely stunning. That said, the tempered glass back is also extremely susceptible to fingerprints.

Sony Mobile just announced the Xperia M2 and M2 Dual at the MWC 2014. These phones have a 4.8-inch (960 x 540 pixels) capacitive touch screen display, powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor and runs on Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean). It has a 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a front-facing camera. It also has NFC support and also comes in LTE variants.

We just reviewed the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact a couple of days back, and saw the official launch of it happen in India yesterday, with it priced at Rs. 36,990/-. The phone carries forward almost all the USPs of its bigger brother, the Xperia Z1 and one of the constants is the Sony EXMOR RS 20.7 MP sensor. In a world where gargantuan phones, as big as tablets, are released regularly, started a trend of “mini” flagships from companies like Samsung and HTC. They were supposed to be just scaled down versions of their popular flagship devices to cater to the market that just doesn’t want huge screens; instead they were scaled down even from the inside. They sported the same design, but a ton of compromises were made otherwise. A lot of companies followed suit with this, with their own “mini” offerings, and so did Sony, but with a twist.
The Xperia Z1 f was first launched in Japan, showing us the first glimpses of what seemed like the perfect “mini” of a flagship. Sensing the potential, Sony undoubtedly went global and announced the Xperia Z1 compact. It was, much like the Z1 f, just a smaller version of the Z1. The internals and the most important USPs of the Z1 were left untouched, hence becoming the “mini” we all yearned for, and deserved. With the burden of being almost the perfect Android replacement for the iPhone, can Sony’s “mini” flagship match the deservedly high expectations? Last year Sony launched the Xperia Tablet Z, the company’s first 10-inch waterproof tablet. evleaks has just leaked the specifications of the Xperia Z2 Tablet ahead of MWC 2014. The successor would have the same 10.1-inch HD (1920 x 1200 pixels) WUXGA display, but this would be powered by a 2.3 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor instead of Snapdragon S4 Pro chip.
