New Motorola W362 CDMA for Reliance users

Reliance Communications unveiled Motorola’s new CDMA handset W362 in Chennai. This handset is claimed to be made entirely in India, at the Motorola plant in Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu.

This low end handset has very basic features and is a great buy for college students.

Nokia Supernova Series

Nokia’s new lineup of Supernova handsets is about to see the Nokia 7610 Supernova handset get real in the US. This seems to be Nokia’s attempt of unleashing stylish handsets at affordable prices. Priced around 225 EUR, the Nokia 7610 Supernova offers Xpress-On covers in a choice of a set of Steel Blue and Red covers offset by a muted gray front surface, or Bright Lilac and Steel Blue contrasted against a white front surface.

Additional features include a 3.2-megapixel camera with autofocus, instant

messaging and TV out for image sharing. The Nokia 7610 Supernova also offer a dedicated music key, FM radio, an MP3 player and access to Nokia Music Store (where available) via the Nokia Music PC Client.

Windows Mobile – In trouble?

Recent acquisition of Symbian has created quite a stir in the ever increasing market of Mobile Operating Systems. Symbian OS accounts for 60 percent of the converged mobile device segment, but has been loosing share lately. This has been largely to Windows Mobile and Linux.

Symbian has largely been controlled by Nokia. And it seems pretty odd, other phone manufacturer’s paying large sum of money going into the hands of a competitor.But this will all change with the Symbian foundation. How much? Only time will tell.

Google is about to unleash linux-based Android pretty soon on Motorola handsets. So this means putting additional pressure on Windows Mobile, which charges heavy on licensing fees. Continue reading “Windows Mobile – In trouble?”

After we saw that Vodafone India opened bookings for iPhone 3G .. Now Bharti Airtel does not want to stay far behind.. I landed on this 3g iphone page on Airtel’s website

The website says Become the proud owner of Apple iPhone3G on Airtel.

They also have a form to sign up for the iPhone

Nokia buys Plazes Location Based Social Network

Nokia acquired German Location Based Social networking start-up Plazes.com, as part of its push into offering internet services on its cell phones. Nokia is set to release GPS cell phones from its staples during this year and acquisition of the 13 people strong startup company makes sense.

Vodafone India opens bookings for iPhone

Vodafone India has opened up bookings for the iPhone 3G .. although it would be just a 2G phone here.

There is a Pre Registration page on Vodafone’s website which lets you book your iPhone.


Both 8GB and 16GB versions will be available

Interesting Microsoft Exchange Support is going to be there .. What happens to Blackberry’s ball game in India ?

The page says Currently compatible only with 2G networks. Only select features and services
are currently available in India.

Motorola unveiled two handsets that are categorized as business class devices that run on the same Linux OS, i.e. MING handsets – the A1600 and A1800.

Nokia to buy Symbian

The news is out Nokia buys Symbian ( the remaining shares ) in a move to establish the SymbianFoundation

Symbian just turned 10 years old this week ..  so the Finnish phone maker decided to buyout the SmartPhone OS maker

Well this is a smart move to compete with Apple iPhone and Google Android which are having strong developer programs ..

This deal will mark the formation of the SymbianFoundation and the source code would be made open source .. i guess just in time before the first android phone or iphone sdk hits global markets ..

The foundation is expected to start operations in 2009

Sony Ericsson F305 – The new game machine

The success of Playstation, and more recently PlayStation Portable (PSP) is well known. For a long time, Sony let the rumours float around of its work on a PSP phone.

The wait is over. What we get is a new line of Gaming Phones from Sony stable. Sony Ericcson F305 was announced on June 17th in Singapore. And comes a new era in the field of Mobile gaming.

What we get is a mobile phone, which not only has Playstation-kind-of dedicated keys for serious gamers, but also puts Sony in the big league of Motion Detection technology. The phone features advanced sensor detection, just like Nintendo Wii gaming console.

F305 includes all what is expected of a mobile phone. 2.0 megapixel camera, stereo speakers, memory stick and EDGE. Why has it not been equipped with 3G or wifi capabilities for multiplayer gaming is still a debatable topic, but we neverthless get a decent gaming machine. Apple iPhone Games

It seems Apple is making all efforts to make sure it stays on top of the new generation of Phones. With a record number of downloads for Apple iPhone SDK and the subsequent launch of App Store, its all set to take the Mobile Games market by storm.

Major developers like Sega,Glu Mobile, EA and Pangea are already on the job to roll out the first batch of games. Sega recently showcased Super Monkey Ball, a tilt-sensitive iPhone game with over 110 levels.
