How good is the Camera of the Sony Ericsson Vivaz ? 8MP Photos, 720p Videos inside

Continuing my Series of the Sony Ericsson Vivaz Posts, I’d like to give you a bit of a closer Insight on the Vivaz Camera, which is the Heart, Soul and Marketing Argument on this Handset. Now I know that I’m far away from being a Photo Expert and most Details of the Specification List i simply don’t understand. However, i DO love to go out and snap Pictures and Videos of whatever comes into my Way and the Vivaz was no Exception.

The Camera on the Sony Ericsson Vivaz is a 8.1 Megapixel Camera with Auto-Focus and a single LED Flash. As you can see in the Pictures down below, the Camera produces some stunning Pictures in good Light Conditions. I also tried some Panorama Shots, which turned out pretty nice as well. The only real Downer is the Lack of a Xenon Flash, or at least a second LED. While some close-up Shots at Night turn out to be quite okay, i found Pictures on a bigger Distance quite annoying. Further Features of the Vivaz Camera are a Touchfocus Function, which works quite okay, 4x digital Zoom, Image Stabilisation, Face Recognition and a rather disappointing Option to upload Pictures to Online Services.

For my Amateur Knowledge, the Camera did quite well in still Shots. You can see below some Camera Samples, including some Panorama Shots and also a little Standoff, against the 5MP + Xenon Shooter that is the  Nokia N82, still one of my favourite Devices. As usual you can look at all the Pictures and more in full Resolution over at Flickr in my Set Sony Ericsson Vivaz Cam Shots.

Pretty good Pictures, right? Now how about Videos of the Vivaz? Well, i recorded all the Videos in 720p Video Mode in different Light Conditions. The Quality is better than the other Devices i had so far and the continuos Auto-Focus works fantastic, as you can see. It quickly focuses on whatever you’re filming, making sure you always have a fantastic Picture. A Thing i didn’t really like was the Lack of Video Stabilisation. Most of the Videos turned out to be pretty shaky. Have a look at some of the Videos below, there’s a lot more in my Youtube Playlist for the Vivaz and let me know what you think!? Maybe we have some Photo Experts  amongst us, who likes to give their Opinions?

As a little Special for you, i did a small Comparison – Nokia N82 vs. the Sony Ericsson Vivaz. 8.1MP + Single LED vs. 5MP + Xenon Flash. Who wins?

So what’s your Opinion? What do you think of the Samples? Is the Vivaz living up to it’s Hype? Is it as good as Sony Ericsson says? Don’t forget to check out my Flickr Set with all Pictures in Full Size and Youtube Channel for the high quality goodness! 🙂
