While the development of 5G is still underway, South Korean giant LG has taken early steps to secure core technologies for 6G mobile communication. The company teamed up with KAIST which is state science school. LG has opened a 6G research lab at the state-run Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology (KAIST) in the central city of Daejeon. LG has launched V40 ThinQ penta camera smartphone in India, as it was teased earlier week. It was introduced back in October last year and packs a 6.4-inch FullVision OLED display, triple rear cameras with 16MP 107-degree super wide-angle, 12MP standard angle and 12MP telephoto with 2x optical zoom and Triple Shot feature stitches together the images captured with each of the three lenses into a short video file for easy sharing. LG has finally rolled out Android 9.0 (Pie) update for its G7 ThinQ smartphone starting from Korea, as it had promised last month. The company has also shared update schedule for older smartphones, including some of the Q and X series smartphones in Korea, which extends throughout the year. Hope we can expect the global roll out soon after the roll out in Korea.

WIPO and USPTO published a patent of an LG smartwatch and method for controlling same on December 20, 2018. The patent hints at a smartwatch with a camera in the watch band. It is necessary to move the camera to get a clean photograph which is easy with a smartphone, but it’s a bit difficult on a wrist.
