Reliance Jio is said to be in talks with Xiaomi for exclusive rights to sell smartphones and TVs in India similar to what it has with Apple. If everything works out, Jio will exclusively sell Xiaomi phones and TVs through the Jio retail network and the Reliance Digital chain of stores, according to a new report from ET. Xiaomi has finally surpassed Samsung in the last quarter of 2017 claiming the top smartphone vendor in India title. The company has shipped over 8.2 million units in Q4, 2017 while Samsung despite the annual growth of 17% Samsung retained the second spot with 7.3 million smartphones shipments according to Canalys. Xiaomi introduced MIUI 9 back in July last year along with the Mi 5X smartphone which has already rolled out to several devices. Yesterday at the 2017 Annual Meeting for MIUI division to discuss about the past year and future development, the company said that it has started the development of MIUI 10. This was confirmed by Hong Feng, Co-Founder and Vice President of Xiaomi who leads the MIUI division.
Xiaomi introduced the Surge S1, its first in-house Octa-Core SoC at an event in China back in February last year, which powers the Mi 5c. Now details about its successor Surge S2 has surfaced. According to reports from China, the Surge S2 will be based on TSMC 16nm process technology compared to 28nm in the predecessor. Xiaomi has a tradition of involving Mi Fans in device exploration before the launch of Redmi Note models in India, these explorers get devices before the official launch and are expected to participate in challenges given by the company. For Redmi Note 3 company recruited 100 Mi Fans under the Mi generation program in 2016 and last year, company recruited 50 hardcore Mi Fans as Explorers to test and explore Redmi Note 4 before its official launch. Xiaomi announced the lightning fast MIUI 9 Global back in November 2017 with many fresh changes including Split Screen, Interactive and Fresh UI changes, New Gallery App, Calendar Cards, App Vault, New Notification Shade, Mi Video App, New Mi Explorer and Mi Drop. Xiaomi released MIUI 9 Global Stable update for its Mi MIX 2 smartphone back in November, and announced Android Oreo beta program for the phone for China ROM last month, now it has released MIUI 9 Global Beta ROM 8.1.18 for the smartphone which is based on Android 8.0 (Oreo).
