oppo-n1-launch-india-market

Oppo, the Chinese consumer electronics company, known for its popular smartphones like the Find 5 and the N1, has just sent out invites for an event where it will kickstart its Indian operations – Oppo Mobile India Private Limited, with the launch of its flagship device – the Oppo N1. While the invite doesn’t mention the launch of N1, FoneArena has confirmed that the company is indeed launching the device at the event. Pete Lau, the distinguished engineer from Oppo, had announced earlier that he left the company to pursue something new. It was known that it involved CyanogenMod and its CTO Steve Kondik, but now we know what exactly they are upto. Pete Lau is now the CEO of a new hardware start up called OnePlus, and unsurprisingly, its software partner will be Cyanogen Inc. which will power its phones, starting with the flagship “OnePlus One”. No, we are not making that up.

Oppo N1 Review

oppo-n1-review-33Oppo N1 Review

After a long period of leaks and teasers, Oppo finally announced its latest flagship device, the Oppo N1 in September. The N1, initially believed to be camera-centric, ended up as a well rounded flagship device for the company. Innovations like the O-Touch rear sensor and the unique rotating swivel unit for the camera made sure that the N1 is not just another Android phone, and has a number of firsts worth looking at. Yes, it is a potential trend setter, but is also a trend follower. With a huge 5.9 inch screen, the N1 brings Oppo to proper phablet territory, addressing the growing trend of massively sized phones that bridge the gap between phones and the most popular form factor in tablets. Makes Oppo one of the first companies to go with this approach for a flagship device. The N1 is a phablet, which is currently considered a niche, but one that represents everything Oppo stands for. But the big question is, at a starting price of 599$, does it have the potential to rival the best Android hardware in the market? Lets find out in our in-depth review.

Oppo R829 image surfaces online

The sheer volume of Chinese manufactures has seldom helped us in remembering them, but among them a few companies do stand out and one among them is Oppo. Having produced only a handful of smartphones so far, Oppo have “made it large” because of their hardware and design language in their phones. Oppo have just launched their Oppo N1 and today we have images of what is probably the company’s next smartphone – Oppo R829. Via their Weibo account, Oppo have posted the image of this new device and according to Oppo’s Brand Ambassador – Kedros Ng, this device is the Oppo R829. The naming convention makes us inclined to think that this is the successor of Oppo R819 which we reviewed earlier.

Oppo R819 now available in Midnight Black variant

oppo-r819-midnight-black

Oppo R819, a super thin and compact offering from the Chinese company, is now available in a midnight black colour variant. We had reviewed the device earlier and found it to be quite nice for the price it comes at, but we were also wary of the device’s build, which was glossy and white. Seems like Oppo has fixed our complaints with the midnight black version which looks way more slicker than the original white version. From the looks of the press image, it seems that the black version will be matte, with the sides still sporting a nice chrome strip. In short, personally, I would have liked the midnight black variant more than the white.

oppo-n1-pioneers-program-99

Oppo, the company behind striking devices like the Find 5 and the R819 recently unveiled its camera flagship, the Oppo N1, with a list of “First!” things like O-Touch rear sensor and a rotating swivel for the 13 Megapixel camera, which is touted as one of the best. Of course, like any other company, they require a good amount of word of mouth to get people excited about a new and innovative product. Companies like Nokia regularly get enthusiasts and regular users who are really creative to play around with their devices and register their experiences, and Oppo is looking to do something similar. They are looking for 10 really awesome people who can share their experiences with the world on every aspect of the N1. The benefits include device ownership for just $99 and better, getting to use it before the world.

Oppo to be the first to bring Lytro-like MultiFocus to its Phones with DigitalOptics’ MEMS camera

oppo-r819-review-21

It was rumoured that the new Google Nexus 5 might sport a new DigitalOptics MEMS camera, but the company has come out of the shadows to claim that the reports were inaccurate, but it also provided us with new information that Oppo, not LG, is going to be the first company in the world to use its Multi-Focus capable 8 Megapixel MEMS camera unit. To say Oppo is serious about cameras on its phones is an understatement. Even the Oppo R819, as noted in our review, has a great camera for the price and the N1’s 13 megapixel camera is touted as being superior to others. And marching on, the company is all set to use the innovative Lytro-like multi focus cameras on its phones.

Steve Kondik

Oppo is likely to be the official hardware partner for Cyanogen and the company dropped a hint towards this on YouTube with its new trailer.  Steve “Cyanogen” Kondik himself has announced that he would attend the Oppo N1 launch event in Beijing on September 23rd.  This might be for discussing a hardware partnership with the company. Recently Cyanogen announced the Cyanogen Inc and has also secured $7 million in startup. Oppo R819 Review

oppo-r819-review-1

Oppo, a relatively new player in the Smartphone world, had already impressed us with the beautifully made Find 5, its current flagship device. But as any company that looks to expand its portfolio, Oppo has sought to address the mid-range market, which brings volume as well as the ability to reach more people. The R819 is a step in that direction. Armed with a 4.7 inch 720p display, a super thin 7.3mm profile and an 8 megapixel camera, the device is a decent cut-down in specifications when compared to the Find 5, literally in every sense, including thickness and weight. Oppo is now getting into the very similar yet extremely crowded mid-range category, but does the R819 impress enough to stand out? Read on for our fully detailed review below.

Note: Check out the 360 degree view of the Oppo R819 before proceeding towards the full review!
