HTC J Butterfly launched with 5 inch 1080p display on Japan’s KDDI network

The long rumored HTC phablet was today launched at an event in Japan in the form of the HTC J Butterfly. Launched in partnership with Japan’s KDDI network, the Android Jellybean based smartphone packs in a 5 inch Super LCD 3 screen with Full HD resolution.

HTC opens its first ‘concept store’ in Delhi

HTC yesterday opened its first concept store in South Extension, New Delhi in India to show off its top of the line handsets. The store places an emphasis on HTC’s audio and imaging capabilities by providing two distinct sections in the store.

HTC Q3 net profits slip 79 percent

HTC announced today that its third quarter profits declined by 79 percent and missed forecasts. The reasoning given is that its flagship devices haven’t been able to match the Apple iPhone and Samsung’s Galaxy series of smartphones. Its July-September net profit was reported at T$ 3.9 billion down from T$18.68 billion in the same quarter last year.

TomTom launches its official navigation app on the Google Play store

TomTom is one of the best dedicated navigation application out there other than Google Maps. TomTom’s services were previously available on the iPhone and also HTC had exclusively used their service for their premium devices. Now, TomTom has launched their official application to the Google Play store competing directly with Google maps.

Sony opens PlayStation Mobile for HTC devices

PlayStation mobile is a cross-platform gaming service which was previously accessible only by  certified devices like the PS Vita and the various Android powered Xperia devices and tablets. Android Jelly Bean coming to the HTC One X and One S

HTC just confirmed that a majority of its recent smartphones will get upgraded to Android Jelly Bean. The handsets mentioned include the HTC One X, HTC One XL and HTC One S. HTC reports 58% drop in profit for Q2 2012

Things don’t look very good for smartphone maker HTC which has declared a pretty steep drop in profit compared to the same period last year when it posted record profit. Profit for Q2 2012 stood at NT$7.4 billion versus NT$17.5 billion profit in Q2 2011. That is a drop of about 57.7% in profit – ouch ! Although we are a big fan of the HTC One series mainly the One X and One S, looks like it’s not doing so well in the market. Seems like Samsung is dominating the Android phone market.

HTC doesn’t violate Apple patents says UK Judge

Judge Christopher Floyd from a UK court has ruled that HTC does not violate four patents as claimed by Apple. This includes the infamous slide to unlock claim. More interestingly, the judge says that three of the four patents are not valid.

HTC One X – HTC’s next big thing?

I remember seeing the HTC One X for the first time in Barcelona at Mobile World Congress, announced from Peter Chou himself. I was a little bit confused at first. This announcement didn’t exactly sound like HTC. New materials, new tech, new direction. I was surprised and I gotta say, HTC did a nice job in keeping their word. The One X felt so different from the rest of their smartphones, which all kinda looked the same. Fast forward and here’s me, sitting with my own One X, yes I have indeed purchased one. My colour of choice was white, as it just looks extremely charming. HTC already planning Tizen devices according to Digitimes

You might have seen the Tizen Developer device  which is a Samsung phone running on the Tizen platform. Tizen is the joint venture between Intel and Samsung and the Operating System is expected to be ready this June with devices running on the Tizen OS expected to hit the market in the 2nd half of 2012.
