Google Chrome 35 for Android brings multi window, full screen for videos and more

Google has updated Chrome for Android with a bunch of features and UI improvements. For starters, Chrome now supports multi-window devices including the support for folders within the Chrome OS Launcher. This will enable users to organize their apps properly. The version 35.0.1916.122 includes the ability to undo a tab close.

Google+ for Android gets a major overhaul with auto awesome stories and more

Google has given Google+ on Android a massive makeover with a revamped user interface and several new features. The tech giant has introduced a new feature that organizes and manages your vacation photos.

Google Plus 4.4 for Android

Dubbed as Auto Awesome Stories, the feature combines photos and videos and transforms them into a photo album. It automatically pulls data from geo-tags on photos, landmark detection, location history, and other photo analysis tricks to make various slides for Stories.  In addition, Auto Awesome Movies which is available on iOS and web allows you to automatically mix together photos and videos to make quick and fun highlights.

Google files patent for laptop with built-in smartphone dock

Google had filed a patent for a laptop with built in smartphone device in 2012. According to reports, US patent 8,649,821 has been approved in February this year that shows a smartphone that can be detachable from a laptop. The patent do not mention anything specifically, but we may soon be seeing a laptop in the market that runs on Chrome OS which can work with an Android smartphone. Smartphone’s data connection can be used to access the internet on the laptop on the go. However, major smartphones support WiFi hotspot feature for this use. In an effort to enhance its Google Translate service, Google has acquired Quest Visual for an undisclosed sum.  Founded by former video game developer Otavio Good in 2009, the company is the maker of the popular translation app Word Lens.

Google’s Android Silver may launch Feb 2015, Snapdragon 810-powered LG handset to be one of the first?

There were rumors at the end of last month that Google is replacing its Nexus line of devices with high-end Android Silver phones. Last week, Chromium code of Nexus 6 and Nexus 8 were spotted online on the Code Review page. Today, popular Twitter leaker @evleaks has revealed that Google is planning to scrap its Nexus line and hence we will not see a Nexus 6.

Google Search 4.0 for iOS brings improved Google Now and Voice Search

Google has enhanced offering on its iOS app and added several features. The recent 4.0 updates brings improved voice question capabilities that allows users to ask Google basic questions like “What is the weather” and so on. Conversations are initiated with “Ok Google” command. This feature was already available on Android devices.

Google Glass goes on sale in the US to general public

Now, anyone living in the US can buy Google’s flagship wearable product, the Google Glass.  Google opened sales of Glass to the US public for one day in April, making it briefly available to people. The company also launched a try and buy program for potential Glass buyers. However, this time the Explorer Program is not limited for a specific period or to specific people such as developers.

Oracle wins copyright appeal against Google, new trial to follow

Remember when Google won the lawsuit against Oracle for Android’s copyright infringement on Java? That ruling, which was from a Districts court in San Francisco, has been overruled by a Federal Appeals court, which has practically rubbished the former’s decision. The new ruling states that Oracle’s Java APIs, the ones it acquired as a part of its Sun Microsystems acquisition, do fall under copyright and hence, a new trial on fair use and damages will follow. This is a big blow to Google, purveyor of the omnipresent Android operating system, as it would need to face a fresh set of trials, again. Oracle, on the other hand, will see this as an opportunity to get back at the Mountain View company.
