Xiaomi confirms Indian entry along with 9 other countries

Xiaomi, the Chinese manufacturer known for its unique business model of selling its devices directly, announced its global expansion plans, starting with the hire of Hugo Barra, an Android executive from Google. Months after he joined, Xiaomi started its operations in Singapore, and ever since, we have been expecting more countries to be added to the list. Very recently, Xiaomi’s CEO Lin Bin and Hugo Barra visited Google’s MD in India, signaling a trigger of its operations here. And the company just announced it on Twitter, along with 10 other countries, where it will launch next.

Google has been pumping up its Glass offerings lately by adding 4.4 Android update along with several features. Google rumored to be working on a budget Nexus smartphone

Google is reportedly working on a low budget Nexus smartphone and has teamed up with Taiwanese chip maker MediaTek for the same, according to a Chinese website MTKSJ. The entry-level Nexus is rumoured to be priced as low as $100 (about Rs 6,000) and hence will fall in the category of lower mid-range phones.

Google Q1 2014 earnings reported at $15.42 billion, grow 19% YoY

Earlier today, Google revealed its results for Q1 2014 and posted revenues of $15.42 billion. Earnings per share were reported at $6.27 and this was below the estimated $6.42 per share. The company missed analyst estimates of $15.52 billion in revenue and it can be attributed to Mountain View’s recent stock split amongst other things. Google updates Terms of Service to explain email scanning for ad targeting

Google has revised its Terms of Service (ToS) for Gmail to explain how does it scans users emails for the purpose of ad targeting. The changes that took effect Monday April 14, 2014, specifically indicate that Google is using software to scan email when it is in transit or stored on Google’s servers.

Google Glass loses invite-only purchase in the US, but only for a limited time

Google Glass, the Mountain View company’s first wearable product that took the world by storm, started out as a preview, with an invite-only explorer program. But in a turn of events, Google will be selling the Explorer edition of Glass to anyone in the US, but with a tiny catch. It will be available only for a limited time frame, and only on April 15th, when it will be out for anyone to buy. All you have to do is sign up with your details on this page and you will be able to get the Glass on the 15th, but of course you have to be a US citizen and have to pay the same 1500$ price. But the upside is, you get a frame or shade, according to your preferences and there is no extra cost associated with it.

Android’s Verify Apps feature to continuously monitor for malware

All devices running Android 2.2 and above come with a “Verify Apps” feature built into the Google Settings application. So far this feature has been used to scan apps while installing. The feature would kick in whenever a user would install an APK file obtained from other than the Play Store. Going forward, Google is pushing out an update to flesh out this functionality. Moto X Photo Gallery

First announced in August 2013, the Moto X finally made its way to Indian shores and hit retail last month. The phone uses a unique chipset that is called the X8 Mobile Computing system that allows it to be contextually aware. Powering the phone is a 1.7Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro SoC with an Adreno 320 GPU. This is paired with two separate co-processor units that are responsible for Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Contextual Awareness. These coprocessors give the Moto X its always listening capabilities that really come into life when combined with Google Now’s contextual capabilities. Google is rumored to be working on a new Camera app for Android

Google has somewhat tackled the problem of fragmentation by releasing its core apps as separate applications in the Google Play Store, but it is only a small towards a very big problem. According to Engadget, Google is working on a separate Camera application for Android smartphones that it will soon launch on Google Play Store.

Google signs a deal for Google Glass with the eye wear giant Luxottica which includes Ray-Ban and Oakley

Google is definitely considering the wearable market as its next battleground and it is equipping itself in the process. Earlier in 2013, Google announced that they will be launching the Explorer Edition of Google Glass for $1500 and eventually it will come to the market at a much lower price point. Last week, they announced Android Wear SDK for wearables(read smartwatches).

Google rumored to be working on a 8.9inch Nexus tablet

Google has been targeting audience with great products at affordable products through their Nexus line up. The smartphones – Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 are an example of that. Each of the device offers the best in class performance for a considerably affordable price point. They did the similar thing with the tablets as well – Google Nexus 7 and Nexus 7 2013 – offering great features for an affordable price. It looks like things could change.
