Karbonn launches AGNEE 3G tablet running Android 4.0

Karbonn Mobiles and Innominds has launched AGNEE tablet with 3G support running Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) at the Innovation Qualcomm India 2012 event. It is based on QTI Reference Design (QRD) that is powered by a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM7227A processor. It has a 7-inch (800 x 480 pixels) multi-touch display and has a 1.3MP front-facing camera for video calling. Innominds has designed and developed the tablet for Karbonn. It has preloaded educational applications, education-based content and services that provides a collaborative learning experience for students. It would also have support for voice calling. Qualcomm Awards US$ 100,000 for the QPrize 2012 winner Deck App

Qualcomm Incorporated, through its venture capital arm Qualcomm Ventures has awarded US$100,000 for Deck App Technologies, based in Bangalore , winners of the QPrize 2012 competition. Microsoft Surface RT priced at $499 for 32GB version, Touch cover not included

Huawei Ascend P1 LTE launched in India on Airtel

Huawei has launched the Ascend P1 LTE, the first LTE smartphone in India, in partnership with Airtel at the Innovation Qualcomm India 2012 event. It would run on Airtel’s LTE-TDD network that was first launched in Kolkatta earlier this April. The Huawei Ascend P1 LTE has a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED qHD (960 x 540 pixels) display with scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla glass protection and is powered by a 1.5 GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor with Adreno 225 GPU. It runs on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and has a 8 megapixel auto focus camera with dual LED flash and 1.3MP front-facing camera for video calling. LG to roll out Android 4.1 update for select high-end Optimus devices starting from November

LG has announced the Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) update schedule for high-end devices including Optimus LTE 2, Optimus G, Optimus Vu and Vu 2 in Korea. The LG Optimus LTE 2 would be the first device to get the Jelly Bean update, which would start in November. LG’s latest quad-core Smartphone, Optimus G would get the update in December, while the Optimus Vu and its successor Vu 2 would get the update in Q1 2012. HTC Desire X officially launched in India for Rs. 19799


HTC has officially launched the Desire X, their new Android smartphone that is powered by an 1 GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor. It was announced in August, and went on sale in India last week. It has a 4.0-inch (800 X 480 pixels) capacitive touch screen display and runs on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). It has a 5MP auto focus camera at the back with a f/2.0, 28mm wide angle lens, BSI sensor and and LED flash for better low-light imaging . Rumor: Sony working on a 5 inch 1080p smartphone

According to multiple leaks that have been cataloged by GSMArena, it looks like Sony is working on a new smartphone scheduled to be launched 2013 that will have a 5 inch 1080p display. This device, which has two names depending on the country it’ll launch in, the C660X ‘Yuga’ and the C650X ‘Odin’, has been seen in the NenaMark2 database. Translation: Some Sony engineer with a prototype of this as yet to be unveiled smartphone wanted to see how fast it was, so they ran a benchmark and accidentally uploaded the results to the internet. Leak: Huawei Ascend W1, think of it as the Chinese Lumia 800

Windows Phone 8, Microsoft’s next generation mobile operating system, is scheduled to be unveiled on October 29th. So far there have been a handful of Windows Phone 8 devices announced, but unfortunately we don’t know too much about the operating system other than the fact that the home screen will support three live tile sizes. Nokia loves to show people the Lumia 920 and demo the awesome optically stabilized camera, but they won’t actually let anyone touch it. HTC is a bit more relaxed with regards to letting people fondle their devices, but still, time is limited. And Samsung hasn’t even shown off the ATIV S at a public forum. Apple has filed another patent and this one is based on fingerprint sensors. Apple has filed biometric based patents before but we have never really seen its use in any of their products, but we might actually see the use of this patent in the near future. Maybe in the next iPhone.

Google Maps for iOS in Alpha Testing

In iOS 6, Apple decided to replace the Google Maps app in iOS with its own in-house solution. This decision of Apple’s brought a lot of criticism and Apple even made an apology to its customers. Since then, it has been rumored that Google has been working on releasing their own standalone version of Google Maps.

Today, App Map [iTunes Link] developer Ben Guild has posted some early details and partial screenshots from Google’s upcoming Maps application for iOS.

Guild reports that the standalone version of Google Maps for iOS is reportedly in alpha testing, but will offer some promising improvements over the old Google Maps. The report also says that the new Google Maps is vector based, has two-finger rotation to any angle, is “super fast” and supports the taller iPhone 5 screen. No word on availability has been made yet, but an early report claimed that Google may be targeting release by Christmas of this year. Meanwhile, Apple has been making improvements to their own Maps over time.

 

LG Optimus 4X HD price drops to Rs. 27990


LG Optimus 4X HD has got a price cut in India, which is now available for Rs. 27,990. It was announced at MWC 2012 earlier this February and launched in India for Rs. 34,990 in July. The price of the Samsung Galaxy S3 dropped to Rs. 34,900 last month. HTC One X also lies in the similar price range. Now you have lot of choices if you are looking for a quad-core Android Smartphone. Asus Padfone 2 shows off larger screen, new dock in video

Asus took the world by surprise when it launched what is still the world’s only phone and tablet combo, the Padfone. The company is planning to update the specifications of the phone, improve on the docking mechanism and we just got our first look at it via a video where CEO Jimmy Shen walks us through the Padfone 2.

The Padfone 2 is believed to include a 4.7″ screen with a 720p resolution. The camera too is believed to have been bumped up to 13 megapixels. While the  original Padfone Docking Station included a door to let you slide in the phone, the redesigned version is much thinner and has an exposed back.
